Public benefits

Christian Unions Ireland (NI) Trust provides benefit to students by promoting the formation and growth of Christian Union groups run by students for students. We deepen and strengthen the spiritual life of students through Bible teaching, study and prayer. This in turn benefits the wider church that students belong to by increasing their knowledge

and opportunities for service within the church. We encourage students to obey God’s commission to go into all the world with the Gospel, sharing in this privilege by giving, praying and serving in every area of life to which God calls them. This in turn promotes the adoption of a moral framework which encourages students to be good citizens in their university, church and society. We provide opportunities for students to engage with students from other universities throughout Northern Ireland, Ireland, UK, Europe and the World through our sister movements in 153+ countries worldwide under the umbrella movement IFES. The organisation’s beneficiaries are students in third level education institutions across Northern Ireland. All of the above benefits will be evidenced through: • Training events for Christian Union leadership teams; • CU Annual Conference - a training event open to any student from any Christian Union in Ireland; • Co-operation with local churches and other mission agencies to offer students opportunities for service in their local communities and society; • Regular surveying of student training needs and service opportunities – via Christian Union groups; • Facilitating the meeting of a Student Council (a selected group of student leaders from across Ireland) to gain feedback on IFES Ireland activities and give student input into the decision making process of the organisation. • The Board of Christian Unions Ireland (NI) Trust has 2 student representatives, chosen annually from current Christian Union Leaders. The only private benefit flowing from our purposes is related to the employment of our staff who receive benefits as a result of their employment. However, we consider this to be incidental and necessary in order to further our charitable purposes. We do not anticipate that any harm will flow from any of our purposes.

What your organisation does

Our mission is students reaching students Christ. We pursue this by giving every student in Ireland an opportunity to respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ We promote our core values which are: 1. Fuelled by the gospel of grace We see our mission and all we do as an overflow of joy-filled hearts won by the love of Christ, constantly thrilled with

the cross, and compelled to want to make him known 2. Confident in the sufficiency of Scripture All we do is shaped by a dynamic engagement with God’s Word, submitting to its authority in all of life, and with deep conviction that this is where Christ is most clearly and desirably seen by Christians and non-Christians 3. Joyfully dependent on God We choose to enjoy that our loving Father is in control, that apart from Christ we can do nothing and that only his Spirit can produce fruit. We are not ashamed to be completely dependent in prayer, recognising that all glory in anything we do is all his 4. Striving for unity in Christ We draw Christians from all backgrounds to unite on campus for the sake of urgent mission, being only constrained by the gospel’s demands but showing the generosity on which the gospel insists 5. Generously serving the Church We are committed to local churches as the place of lifelong mission and discipleship, seeking to nurture and mobilise future leaders for the Church in Ireland and around the world 6. Passionately engaged in God’s world We endeavour to glorify God in everything we do as his image-bearers by living holistically in his world, engaging wisely with culture, serving generously on campus, thinking biblically about studies, and developing a Christian mind 7. Investing in dynamic student-leadership We equip students to live and speak for Jesus, seeking the good of the campus communities to which they belong, and investing creatively and with transparent integrity in student societies

Charitable purposes

Christian Unions Ireland (NI) Trust is established for the advancement of the Evangelical Christian Faith (provided always that the phrase 'Evangelical Christian Faith' shall be interpreted to mean those fundamental truths of Christianity as revealed in Holy Scripture as set out in 'the doctrinal basis' of the trust (See below). In furtherance of the above but further or otherwise to: Promote the formation and growth of evangelical Christian groups in universities and other post secondary institutions of learning in Ireland; Assist such groups in their efforts to bear witness to Jesus Christ as Saviour, Lord and God in the post secondary institutions of learning in Ireland. Pursue this calling consistent with the doctrinal basis of THE FELLOWSHIP and in the terms of the following: EVANGELISM: to proclaim Jesus Christ as God Incarnate, Saviour and Lord and to seek to lead others to a personal faith in Him. SPIRITUAL GROWTH: to deepen and strengthen spiritual life through Bible teaching, study and prayer, so that the Holy Spirit may increase our likeness to Christ in character, behaviour and effective witness. WORLD MISSION: to call Christian students and others to obey God’s commission to go into all the world with the Gospel, sharing in this privilege by giving, praying and serving in every area of life to which He calls us. COMMITMENT TO TRUTH: to help students and others to explore and assert biblical truth, and to apply it to every issue of private and working life and public concern. The Doctrinal Basis of Christian Unions Ireland (NI) Trust is 1 The Unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead. 2 The Sovereignty of God in creation, revelation, redemption and final judgement. 3 The divine inspiration and infallibility of Holy Scripture as originally given and its supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. 4 The universal sinfulness and guilt of human nature since the fall, rendering everyone subject to God’s wrath and condemnation. 5 The full deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God; his virgin birth and his real and sinless humanity; his death on the cross, his bodily resurrection and his present reign in heaven and earth. 6 Redemption from the guilt, penalty and power of sin only through the sacrificial death once and for all time of our representative and substitute, Jesus Christ, the only mediator between God and humanity. 7 Justification as God’s act of undeserved mercy, in which sinners are pardoned all their sins and accepted as righteous in God’s sight, only because of the righteousness of Christ imputed to them, this justification being received by faith alone. 8 The need for the Holy Spirit to make the work of Christ effective to individual sinners, granting them repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ. 9 The indwelling of the Holy Spirit in all those thus regenerated, producing in them and increasing likeness to Christ in character and behaviour, and empowering them for their witness in the world. 10 The one holy universal church which is the body of Christ and to which all true believers belong. 11 The future personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge everyone, executing God’s just condemnation on the impenitent and receiving the redeemed to eternal glory.
