Public benefits
The members who attend the forum benefit in a number of ways. The information given at meetings can be fed back to member clubs this information includes benefits for older people, home safety advice, projects that we can benefit from e.g. community bridge building scheme and the MARA project. Social isolation is something many of our members
face. Some members live alone, other live in rural area some have little or no family support. The forum offer them the opportunity to come out of the house and meet other like minded people. If anyone cannot get to the meeting we ensure that transport is provided. All day trips and activities are at low cost and affordable for members. As a Forum we work with older people aged 60+ living across the Armagh City and District. Many of our members are socially and geographically isolated and therefore the Forum offers a place where older people can come together to learn new skills, meet others in similar situations as themselves and develop friendships. We advance education through the opportunity for members to gain information and skills through speakers and facilitators on a range of subjects. We share information with our members through leaflets and flyers and signpost to services when and where necessary. As many of our members are on low incomes we provide a range of low cost recreational opportunities e.g. day trips, health and wellbeing programmes. We work along with a range of statutory, community and voluntary organisations in order to improve the quality of life for older people living across Armagh City and District, including the new ABC Council, ABC Community Network, Age Sector Platform, Volunteer Now. This enables us to inform our members of changes and developments that can affect their lives. · We raise awareness of new projects by inviting along speakers and sharing information with our members. · We attend meetings, events and activities that can help inform our members e.g. consultation on changes to minor injuries unit · We regularly network with other similar groups, this provides members with the opportunity to meet others, share information and experiences. · We encourage our members to take part in a range of training opportunities which will help inform and provide new experiences and develop skills e.g. first aid, capacity training, volunteer development. There is no harm or potential harm from the activities that we carry out. No one gains private benefit from the purposes we carry out.
