Public benefits
PURPOSE 1: The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are that children under 14 yrs of age are given the opportunity to engage in non-formal educational activities through the medium of play. This promotes the personal and social development of young people. It helps develop their own skills and increases confidence and independence. We
also promote and facilitate cross community and multi-cultural engagement Parents also benefit as they can pursue training and employment opportunities. Parents have also the opportunity to volunteer for our organisation. This involves acting as Trustees and providing strategic direction and support for the organisation. Through this work we are contributing to the voice for providing play opportunity for children. These benefits are demonstrated through the process of external evaluations of the work by external agencies. One example is the inspection by DHSSPS to ensure that we are meeting the minimum standards for school aged care. We also received feedback from parents to ascertain if they have seen their child benefit from the work we do. We also undertake evaluations with young people to ensure that the range of activities we undertake meet their needs. There is no harm or potential of harm which flows from this purpose. The charity’s beneficiaries are young people aged 4 to 13 in the waterside area of Derry City. We target both working families and/or low income families from within the area. We have some young people who are within the care system. Through our work we also support parents as they have confidence that their child is within a stimulating learning environment. There is no private benefit which flows from this purpose. The only benefit which is incidental is that parents of children using the service are also Trustees. It is important to note that they do not receive any additional benefits that other parents would have access to. However, those that are Trustees do receive training and support which could be suggested as contributing to their own personal and professional development. This is however crucial to their role as Trustee and ensures strong governance. PURPOSE 2: To support the values and principles of Playboard. By supporting these values and principles, the children in our care benefit from a child-centered approach. Children are involved in all decision-making and are encouraged to have their opinions heard. Play is valued and staff ensure to create opportunities and challenges for children to reach their full potential. All children are welcome and different traditions and cultures are celebrated throughout the year. We continually evaluate our service provision and make changes accordingly to ensure a high standard of care. These benefits are demonstrated through the process of external evaluations of the work by external agencies. We have team meetings in which the progress of children is reviewed. Playboard NI is the regional support organisation for after school clubs. As members we subscribe to their values and principles and embed them within our practice. There is no harm or potential of harm which flows from this purpose. The beneficiaries are children and young people aged 4-13 in the Waterside area of Londonderry and their families. We target both working families and/or low income families from within the area. We have some young people who are experiencing disadvantages and marginalisation as they are from within the care system. Through our work we also support parents and the wider family as they have confidence that their child is within a stimulating learning environment. This provides comfort and allows them to pursue full or part time training and employment opportunities There is no private or incidental benefit which flows from this purpose.
