Public AdoptNI works to support anyone who has been affected by adoption either as a result of having been adopted as a child or as a birth family member. Our services are available to people who refer themselves, although they will oftn also require support from their local Health and Social Care Trust. More frequently, clients are referred
by their HSCT and we work with the relevant Trust to provide information and support. In addition to providing support for people in Northern Ireland we help people who were adopted outside of NI and have birth family memebers here or who were adopted outside NI and live here now. Benefit People who are adopted often have issues associated whith knowing who they are and can be torn between wanting to know about their family of origin while at the same time remaining loyal to and secure within their adoptive family. AdoptNI's services aim to support their mental health and wellbeing. Similarly, birth families often need to know about the child who was adopted years ago. It is often beneficial if the adopted adult and birth family can meet or at least have contact by letter. However, there are some situations where this is not desirable and we will support clients who wish to have no contact while helping those whose approach is being rejected to accept the wishes of the other party. Services include:- Tracing and support during searching Intermediary work to reintroduce adopted adult and birth family Peer support Specialist counselling One-to-one specialist support or advocacy

Regional Origins Tracing Service (ROTS) is a tracing service open to all Family and Childcare Social Workers in the statutory and 2 voluntary adoption organisations in Northern Ireland. ROTS can only be used by social workers searching on behalf of adoptees, birth mothers and birth siblings and those who are looked after. Intermediary Work Our
intermediary service is designed to ensure individuals establish contact safely and at a pace that suits both parties. If contact progresses well and in time both parties wish to meet, we can facilitate the reunion or put you in touch with a qualified intermediary. Help to Remain Anonymous If an adoptee or birth mother does not want to have contact and does not want the other party to gain identifying information, Adopt will endeavour to assure the person feels confident that their wishes will be respected and can work with the other party to help them accept and respect the other’s wish to remain anonymous. At Adopt we offer peer support on a one-to-one and group basis. Both types of peer support help reduce or remove the sense of isolation that members of the adoption and looked after communities often feel. Through the listening and sharing of experiences peers can learn from one another and gain insight and understanding into their own and others' perspectives. Both one-to-one and group support are facilitated by an experienced member of our team. Specialist Counselling Our counsellors specialize in working with issues experienced by the adoption and looked after communities. Counselling usually entails a set of six fifty-minute sessions spread over six weeks but can involve a more long term commitment. One-to-One with a Support Team Member This one-to-one support offers individuals an experienced member of our support team to talk to in confidence.
