Purpose: The objects for which the company is established shall be to provide advice, guidance and practical help through the agency of trained and qualified workers to men, women and children who need the support of Christian standards of care and concern. The Board exists to provide pastoral, social work and counselling services and to carry on
the work of a registered voluntary adoption society. The benefits which flow from this purpose fall under a number of areas and include the following: Adoption: In the area of adoption our aim is to provide social work support and counselling to per-sons in Northern Ireland affected by adoption. The benefits are for children being placed for adoption, adopted children, adopters, adopted adults and members of the birth family of an adopted person. The overall aim is to improve outcomes in adoption for all parties involved in adoption. The Board monitor the quality of the service through user evaluation and formal feedback mechanisms with other social work agencies in Northern Ireland, both statutory and voluntary. External monitoring of our adoption service is provided by the Regional Quality and Improvement Authority. It is our aim to benefit users directly. We see no private benefit with regard to adoption service delivery based on present trustee membership or staff members. Any potential benefit is anticipated at present and would be incidental e.g. a relative of a staff member wishing to adopt. There is no perceived harm flowing from this purpose. The beneficiaries of this purpose are people from across Northern Ireland. Fertility Counselling: With regard to Fertility Counselling our purpose is to provide counselling and support to persons affected by infertility, be they considering, undergoing or have ended fertility investigations and or treatments. The benefit for users is better understanding of their own fertility issues and an indirect benefit may be greater understanding of such issues for wider family members. A further benefit is adults conceived through the use of donor egg and/or sperm being given information on their conception origins. The overall benefit to persons with on-going infertility, persons with successful infertility treatment and children/adults conceived through infertility treatments, is clearer understanding of the issues involved and improved emotional well-being. Our aim is to collect user feedback from clients provided with counselling, from support groups operated by INUK and by professionals in local fertility clinics. Our service is regulated externally by the Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority. This gives our service a national standard for inspection. In addition our counsellors are members of the British Infertility Counselling Association, which has regulatory standards. We see no private benefit with regard to Fertility Counselling service delivery based on present trustee or staff membership. Any potential benefit would be incidental. A potential benefit for counselling staff is funded training leading to opportunities for private practice. There is no perceived harm flowing from this purpose. The beneficiaries of this purpose are people from across Northern Ireland.
