Public benefits
Our beneficiaries are primarily children and young people who are orphaned, can no longer be supported by family members or are living with family members or guardians but in a destitute situation, but also their families and communities who are in need of assistance as a result of their poverty or social and economic circumstances in Sierra Leone,
Liberia, Malawi, Uganda, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and such other countries that may be identified from time to time. We work with our partner charities in each of these regions to help deliver our charitable purposes which are interlinked and therefore benefits overlap between purposes. We further all of our charitable purposes through the provision of financial aid, expertise and volunteer placement. Purpose 1 The direct benefit which flows from the prevention or relief of poverty, suffering and distress and hunger and to promote the benefit of those in need is that the beneficiaries will have basic essentials, food and shelter. The assistance with the costs of medical treatment radically eases suffering and distress. Improvements are made to the beneficiaries’ quality of life and personal development. These benefits will be evidenced by the provision of food to relieve hunger; care will be provided through the establishment or support of homes, orphanages or institutions for orphans and destitute children and clothing will be provided to those in need. Through working with partners in the area of benefit, we will be able to provide essential relief to relieve malnutrition and poverty. We recently provided financial support for the establishment of an Interim Care Centre in Sierra Leone for the temporary care of children who have been orphaned as a result of the Ebola virus. These children are referred by the Government and are cared for while their extended family can be traced and a home can be found for the child. Our support helped renovate and fit out the centre with beds, mattresses etc as well as purchase supplies for the first children to arrive. Purpose 2 The direct benefit which flows from the advancement of education is that the spiritual, physical, mental and emotional capacities of children and young people primarily, will be developed. Their education attainment is improved through attendance at formal education establishments. The beneficiaries’ spiritual development will also be enhanced as education is delivered on the basis of Christian principles. These benefits are evidenced through the number of students being supported to undertake higher education. We have been able to connect the ministry Fields of Life with Children of the Nations in Uganda with the goal of partnering on various initiatives such as teacher training as well as a more general exchange of ideas, information and experience. We have provided scholarships to three young people registered in Children of the Nations - Malawi's program so that they can take up places in university. This means that we have provided them with fees but also money for learning materials, living expenses, accommodation etc. We also provided scholarships to three young people living in the Children's Home of Children of the Nations - Sierra Leone, so that they could attend a vocational training school. We aim to further support educational programmes in schools and skills centres and social programmes like sports ministries and mentoring programmes. ... [more] [less]What your organisation does
Children of the Nations UK acts in association with the statutory authorities, community and voluntary organisations and the inhabitants of the area of benefit, in a common effort to provide residential accommodation, education and facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure-time occupation to improve the
conditions of life for the said beneficiaries. The role of Children of the Nations UK is to raise awareness with supporters in the UK of the issues faced by the beneficiaries, in order to raise financial support. This financial assistance will be directed towards projects meeting our charitable purposes, and may be long-term ventures, or specific projects geared towards current events; for example, our fundraising to provide healthcare items and practical tools to protect our beneficiaries from the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone. Financial assistance comes through regular donations from supporters and specific fundraising appeals or events. A child sponsorship program will also provide another route for financial donations. Children of the Nations UK will also recruit, select and send out volunteers for both short and long term service within the area of benefit, to support the purposes of the organisation through specific projects and roles.
