Public benefits

Pais Project (“the Trust”) seeks to benefit young people aged 5-18 in Northern Ireland (“the area of benefit”). The Trust seeks to promote the advancement of Christianity and the advancement of education of young people. In demonstrating the benefits that flow from the promotion of the Christian faith, it is submitted that the promotion of faith

provides for moral improvements in society. In advocating for the adopting Christian values, individuals are encouraged to be kind, compassionate and honest with one and other. This enables the relief of anti-social behaviour and the promotion of self-esteem. The adoption of such a moral code enables those individuals who live under it to be better citizens of the world and to contribute in a beneficial way to broader society. Whilst the Commission’s guidance states that it is not necessary to prove the spiritual benefits relating from the promotion of religion, the trustees are of the opinion that the teaching of the gospel enables the salvation of all people and enables people to know hope and peace. Pais Project attempts to promote the Christian faith through faith based events, services and missions aimed at children and young people. These are routinely held in conjunction with other churches and evangelical groups. This has the impact of strengthening partnership in mission and acts to enable these groups to further support religious education and spiritual development. Again, this enables further improvements in moral conduct and behaviour. In considering the harm that may flow from the promotion of the Christian faith, Pais Project does not engage in evangelical activities that are perceived to be harmful or act as a coercive or proselytising practice. In demonstrating the benefits that flow from the advancement of education for children and young people aged 5-18 in a faith based setting, the Trust has found that its programmes have assisted to relieve anti-social behaviour, reduce teenage pregnancy, alleviate bullying, promote self-esteem and generally support troubled young people. The activities of the Trust also help young people to achieve their personal hopes and dreams for their future and gives them life skills with which they can positively contribute to society. These benefits are demonstrated through regular independent feedback from young people, parents, church leaders and evaluation of our services by educational professionals in schools across Northern Ireland, collected data and tracking reports. It is considered that no harm arises from the Trust’s educational activities. The core activities of Pais are undertaken by a team of interns/volunteers who are responsible for (amongst other things) the day to day booking, planning and administering of schools and youth work. The access to internships allows young Christians to improve their communication skills, leadership skills, life and cross cultural experiences and spiritual development. This has positive consequences on their development as young leaders and is demonstrated by regular evaluation of the volunteer’s skills and development feedback. A private benefit to volunteers will arise from our program of ongoing training in youth and schools work, leadership and other life skills. Through this training volunteers gain skills and experience that are transferable to other settings providing experience for future employment. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. The private benefits received by trustees as a consequence of any necessary and transferrable governance or management training is considered incidental and necessary in order to ensure that benefit is provided to the beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

The Pais Project Trust offers a wide variety of activities for children and young people of all backgrounds to advance the Christian faith and to advance the education of children and young people. In schools we offer classroom support; lessons in RE, PSHE and Citizenship; assemblies; workshops in topics such as anti bullying, team building, self

esteem, and prayer spaces; lunch and after school activities. We provide tailored life coaching for young people to support their social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing whilst encouraging their hopes and dreams to become a reality in their lives. The Pais Project promotes the Christian faith by providing events, services and missions aimed at children and young people many of which are community benefiting. We also provide community based events like fun days or social action projects through which we help children and young people of local churches engage positively with community life. Our youth group and children’s clubs provide environments for young people to explore the Christian faith and connect with peers from a variety of backgrounds. For those young people who wish to explore Christianity on a deeper level we provide bible studies through which they can learn and gain understanding. From time to time we also offer residential’s which help young people gain different experiences and understand a wider variety of cultures or contexts which deepens their world view. All of our activities seek to enrich children and young people’s spiritual experiences and support their social and emotional wellbeing, enabling them to successfully engage with education and develop their moral conduct and behaviour.
