Public benefits

Purpose 1: The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include fostering and encouraging spiritual development of members/attendees through the provision of a safe public meeting place for worship; promotion of an awareness and understanding of religious beliefs and practices through the provision of a place for private reflection; increased

community involvement leading to further charitable work like missionary and outreach. These benefits are demonstrated through increased confidence, happier and improved lifestyles; those with depression and felt a lack of purpose now engaged in healthier lifestyles and carrying out activities they previously were unable to; marriages restored as couples thinking of separation now working together; children attend school regularly and have improved grades; steady increase of membership and greater increase in media resources requests. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. There may be some who disagree with the Christian belief. Benefit outweighs any harm as there is freedom of disagreement even among members. None is compelled to adhere to the Christian faith, as the main fundamental principle of the Christian faith is that of willingness of conversion not forcefulness or cohesion. The beneficiaries are attendees at our services and the wider community. Private benefit is payment to the Pastor or Minister. Purpose 2: The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include increased health and wellbeing of the public; improved social inclusion as the participants have now found the courage to engage in other social activity as a result of our activities; decrease in hardship and distress faced by families through increased access to benefits and food. These benefits are demonstrated through increased access to and use of our food bank; use of our charity shop for furniture and clothing. There may be some harm arising from this purpose through food poisoning. People have suffered food poisoning from food received from food banks. Any possibility of harm is outweighed by the benefits. Antioch store house which is our food bank only gives out dry and tinned food, the expiry date is checked and all items stored in a dry place in compliance when safe storage procedures. This minimises but cannot totally eradicate the risk. The furniture is checked to make sure they are in good order. This minimises the risk of being harmed by furniture given. The beneficiaries are those in need of financial and other assistance. Purpose 3: The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved mental and emotional health of the public; increased community integration as members of the Protestant and Catholic community come together in a non-denominational environment; increased cultural integration as members of the Slovak, Portuguese and Polish communities come together. These benefits are demonstrated through the drop in racially motivated attacks which indicate that communal and cultural integration is bringing awareness amongst our communities in the mid Ulster region. There is no harm arising from this purpose except harm that can arise from any physical activity. Any possibility of harm is outweighed by the benefits. We undertake health and safety procedures and risk assessment at all time when embarking on activities; all volunteers are inducted to minimise the risk of injury; the risks are assessed and preventive measures taken as stipulated on our health and safety procedures. The beneficiaries are those in the local community. Purpose 4: The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include increased awareness and education about drugs, teen drinking and substance abuse; increased opportunities to develop the activities they feel best to express their struggles; provision of a safe place for those intoxicated by alcohol or under the influence of drugs which keeps them safe. *To view the full statement, please contact the Commission*
