Public benefits

Purpose – The charity is formed as a support to families living in Northern Ireland who have children with heart conditions, either congenital or acquired. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include reliving the financial hardship for Northern Ireland parents whether they are within Northern Ireland or at another unit either in the

UK or in Dublin. The charity will also be available for advice on procedures in other hospitals thus making situations for parents more easily managed. These benefits can be demonstrated by telephone calls received, messages left on our Facebook page and also by reciprocating the charity's support by organising fundraising events The beneficiaries are parents and families in Northern Ireland who have children with heart conditions, either congenital or acquired. The purposes may lead to the following harm, that in a few instances experiences turn out differently from that envisaged, but this harm is outweighed by the benefit provided to the beneficiaries. There is no harm flowing from this purpose in that it is only a very small percentage of the experience is different from that which actually occurred. No one in Heartbeat NI receives any financial remuneration for the work/support or time given to Northern Ireland families who have children with heart conditions. The benefit gained is emotional and from the experience gained in helping a family through a traumatic experience.

What your organisation does

We raise money for the above aims, holding Santa Walks, and other events which both raise the profile of the charity and also the profile of heart disease in children in Northern Ireland. We have also helped set up a new charity, Bravehearts NI, which will encompass the young adults who have congenital heart disease and look after their interests

and needs. We are affilliated to the umbrella group Children's Heart Federation in London.
