Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from Purpose 1. PREPARING YOUNG PEOPLE FOR PARTICIPATION include increased participation by children young people and young adults in communal worship, parish based events, youth club, trips and youth residentials, helping them to take on board the Christian ethos, helping them to feel valued, giving them more self

worth and confidence, promoting positive mental health and well being, and a better understanding of moral and ethical issues. This in turn has a greater benefit in helping to sustain the wider parish community. There is equality of opportunity for the targeted age groups. This includes those from all social backgrounds and abilities. Our charging policy (where applicable) always states that the cost of the activity will not be prohibitive. These benefits are (will be) demonstrated through session attendance records, feedback from parents and the young people themselves and by regular evaluation by the volunteer leaders. The purposes of our charity may lead to the following harm, that once some young people gain experience and accreditation in leadership roles that they will move away from the parish community having satisfied their goal. We can show that this harm is outweighed by the benefits though, in that the young people have become more useful members of society and positive role models for others. An incidental benefit is that the targeted group here will also include the children of the local area as well as including the Catholic Polish, Indian and Filipino families and therefore the activities of Colmcille Youth will help to integrate these children into the community and promote mutual understanding between all. The charity’s beneficiaries are those children and young people in the parish of St Comcille’s Ballyhackamore and other children and young people in the local community. The children and young people will have greater tolerance for each other’s attitudes, beliefs and cultures. The benefits of the work of Colmcille Youth contributes to the spiritual development of its participants, a sense of belonging and community, positive mental health and well being. This can be demonstrated by increased attendance at parish youth programmes and events, of parish and local young people from other traditional and cultures eg Indian, Polish & Filipino communities across the age range. There is no perceived harm in this and to offset any poorly managed attempt at integration, it will be important to have representatives from the cultural communities in the leadership teams. The charity’s beneficiaries are those children and young people in the parish of St Comcille’s Ballyhackamore and other children and young people in the local community from both traditions and all cultures. The private benefit flowing from this purpose is greater harmony and integration of, especially the cultural communities with the parish of St Colmcille’s. The benefits which flow from this purpose are that children and young people gain confidence and increased understanding in their core beliefs and Christian values. These benefits can be demonstrated through feedback from children, youth and parents, increased attendance at parish events and Church activities and harmonious respect and tolerance of all. There is no harm in exploring values and beliefs as the programmes and activities will be led by trained and experienced leaders. The charity’s benefits are provided to the children and youth of St Colmcille’s parish and other young people from the local community who wish to engage in the charity’s activities. A private benefit flowing from this purpose is that some individuals will require training to help lead programmes beneficial to the purpose and this is incidental and necessary and will equip some older teenagers, young adults and other adults with leadership skills and planning and development strategies which will be of benefit to the wider community and society.
