Public benefits

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church provides benefit to its members and the general public by making known the Christian Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ through our purpose of the advancement of religion. We believe that we provide the following benefits to its members and the public: * Public worship, together with pastoral care and spiritual,

moral and intellectual development are facilitated through our congregations and are available to our congregations and to anyone else wishing to benefit from what the Church offers. These services are advertised on both our websites and public congregational noticeboards; * Christian values and service are promoted by members of our congregations to the community for the benefit of individuals and society as a whole; * The teachings of the Bible are presented along with opportunities for Christian response, including but not limited to prayer and worship; * Support and guidance is provided to the activities of our members that seek to promote, in Northern Ireland, an understanding of the Christian beliefs as set out in the church’s Basis of Faith, through practical expression of Christian beliefs and ideals in the local community; * The work of individual Christians and other Christian organisations is supported insofar as that work, whether in this country or abroad, accords with the church’s aims; * Pastoral work, including visiting the sick and the bereaved; * Christianity is taught through sermons, courses and small groups; * Particular emphasis is placed on young people through activities youth clubs, and Summer Camps, all with a Christian ethos; * Christianity is promoted through the staging of events and meetings, and the distribution of literature; * Christian Charities in the UK and overseas are supported both financially and through prayer; * Ministers to supply the needs of our local congregations and the wider community are trained and employed. The benefits of our organisation are evidenced through informal and ad-hoc feedback from our members, their families, parents of the young people who attend our youth meetings, and the wider public. We believe that no harm can come from the purpose of the charity. The only private benefit flowing from our purpose is related to the employment of our Ministers who receive benefits as a result of their employment. However, this is incidental and necessary in order to further our advancement of religion charitable purpose. There are no other private benefits, as all of our activities are open to the general public and advertised to them. Our beneficiaries include our members, their families, and the community in which we minister.

What your organisation does

We hold, through our Congregations, services of worship each Lord’s Day together with a Bible Study and Prayer Meeting each week. We also have Sunday Schools, Bible Classes, Children's Meetings, Youth Events and Youth Clubs. Some of our congregations run Mother and Toddler groups. Some special meetings for older folk. We seek to reach people

outside of the Christian faith as well as building up and nurturing those who profess it, through the preaching and teaching of the Word of God, as contained in the Bible, and through pastoral support and visits. Once a week we run a Mother and Toddler group and a Friday night Youth Club. We host a website with information about us and our meetings. Some of our congregations host downloadable sermons, others offer this facility by CD. We operate a number of Holiday Bible Club each Summer. We run three Summer Camps for different age young people. We run an Annual Day event open to all and other events from time to time and all these are announced and open to the public. We support a number of missionary agencies both within Northern Ireland and abroad. Our support takes the form of prayer, encouragement and financial aid. We produce a Magazine and make it available in paper and by internet. We provide training to our Ministers and arrange and provide their employment. Our Presbytery meets on a regular basis and provides direction and superintendence to our local congregations.
