Purpose One (Relieving poverty) The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is a reduction in the impact of poverty on people’s quality of life, the prevention of poverty and physical, social, community and economic improvements within the Greater Shantallow Area. These benefits are evidenced through official government statistics, feedback
from beneficiaries, new community/social physical infrastructure within the Greater Shantallow Area and a regular evaluation of our services. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. The beneficiaries of this purpose are residents living within the Greater Shantallow Area and community/voluntary groups based within the Greater Shantallow Area. A private benefit to GSAP staff arises by their employment to help GSAP deliver our purpose, however this is necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Purpose Two (Advancing education) The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is a more educated, skilled and qualified population within the Greater Shantallow Area and a more informed and capable community/voluntary sector within the Greater Shantallow Area. These benefits are evidenced through examination/test results, official government statistics and feedback from community/voluntary groups and individual service users. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. The beneficiaries of this purpose are residents of all ages living within the Greater Shantallow Area and Community/Voluntary Groups based within the Greater Shantallow Area. A private benefit to GSAP staff (salary)and a range of service providers may arise however these are necessary to co-ordinate and deliver the education and training programmes and ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Purpose Three (Preserving Health) The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is improved health and well-being. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from residents/beneficiaries, official government statistics and regular evaluation of our services. The beneficiaries of this purpose are residents of all ages living within the Greater Shantallow Area. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. A private benefit to GSAP staff (salary) and a range of service providers may arise from the health education and awareness programmes however these are necessary to deliver the programmes and ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Purpose Four (Providing facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objects of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants) The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is improved community life, new community infrastructure developed and maintained and new and existing community and voluntary sector groups based within the Greater Shantallow Area are developed and maintained so that they can be used by the local community. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from residents/beneficiaries, feedback from community/voluntary groups and regular evaluation of our services. The beneficiaries of this purpose are residents of all ages living within the Greater Shantallow Area and Community/Voluntary Groups based within the Greater Shantallow Area. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. A private benefit to GSAP staff (salary) may arise however these are necessary to deliver the purpose and ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

The GSAP is a core community support agency, which works with and on behalf of the people living within the Greater Shantallow Area, an area which suffers from high levels of multiple deprivation in relation to income, employment, health and disability, education, skills and training, child poverty and income deprivation affecting older people. The
GSAP defines its role to be one of acting as a central resource for individuals and community/voluntary groups in the Greater Shantallow area by providing projects, programmes, services in the fields of education and training, health and well being, sport and recreation, early intervention, arts and culture, after school activities and family support and the delivery of capacity building and technical assistance to the C/V sector based within the Greater Shantallow Area. GSAP deliver our programmes, services and activities by effectively targeting those most at risk from social exclusion in particular unemployed, lone parents, those with a disability, carers, elderly, low income working families, children in low income families and disaffected youth and by targeting the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods within the Greater Shantallow Area thus ensuring the effective and efficient targeting and use of resources. In addition we identify and articulate local needs, provide information to and gather feedback from residents and community/voluntary groups in the area, help influence policy makers and service providers that operate within the Greater Shantallow Area and promote the case for local investment within the area.
