Public benefits

The Public Benefit is as follows: The purpose of the Mid-Ulster Talking Newspaper Association is to provide a separate talking newspaper and magazine each week. The direct benefits which flow from the production of the talking newspaper and magazine include the lessening of the feelings of isolation and depression for our listeners and an

increase in engagement with the wider community. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback which we receive at our Annual General Meeting and from contacts during the year with our listeners. The purposes of our charity do not cause any harm. The charity's beneficiaries are those diagnosed with a visual impairment in the Mid-Ulster Area. The only private benefits flowing from this purpose are the skills in reading for our listeners and operating the technology to provide the master recordings. This is incidental and necessary because of the service we provide.

What your organisation does

The Association produces a weekly talking newspaper and magazine for visually impaired people called "Soundtrack". Our volunteers digitally record news and articles from local newspapers, the Mid-Ulster Mail, The Mid Ulster Courier and The Tyrone Courier, for the talking newspaper, and for the magazine articles of local interest, short stories,

interviews and reminiscences from local people. When the recordings are completed they are sent to Ballymena Library where they are copied onto memory sticks which are then distributed to our listeners. The recordings are done on a Wednesday evening/Thursday morning and received by the listener on the Saturday. "Soundtrack" is provided free of charge and the radio and CD player with a USB Port is provided at a nominal cost.
