Public benefits
The first purpose of Carnany Community Association is to relieve poverty, sickness and the aged and to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Carnany and district area of Ballymoney and its environs without distinction of age, gender, race, political, religious or other opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, voluntary
organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education, and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. The benefits flowing from this purpose are the improved living standards, health and well being of the residents of the Carnany area. Specifically, the community is better informed about services they are entitled to, have increased access to information on keeping healthy, and have greater opportunities to engage in activities that bring local residents together improving their mental, emotional and social well being. Additionally, residents have improved educational opportunities and employability prospects as a result of training courses which they can access through the community association. These benefits can be demonstrated through feedback from local residents gathered through feedback forms, and by the success of the group in identifying and meeting the needs of residents, for example lobbying for and securing the recent provision of gas heating in the area, and the extent of usage of facilities such as the new play park facilities in the area, secured by the association, and very well used and the number of local residents who have accessed training courses receiving either certificates or accreditations. There is no harm flowing from this purpose and the intended beneficiaries are the residents of the Carnany area. The trustees of the association who are also local residents benefit from the purposes of the association, for example, through being able to access the services and facilities secured for residents, however this is necessary and incidental for the association in achieving its purposes as the same trustees are also beneficiaries and have access in the same way as other beneficiaries. The second purpose of Carnany Community Association is to establish or to secure the establishment of a Community Centre and to maintain and manage or to co-operate with any local statutory authority in the maintenance and management of such a Centre for activities promoted by the Association and its constituent bodies in furtherance of the above objects. The benefits flowing from this purpose are physical, social and economic improvements within the community facilitated by the existence of a Community Centre in which a variety of clubs and activities take place with a suitable and safe environment from which to operate. This can be demonstrated by records of the regular events and activities taking place within the Centre and the numbers of local residents using the Centre in a social and leisure time capacity. There is no harm flowing from this purpose and the intended beneficiaries are the residents of the Carnany area. A private benefit may be in the form of committee members often engaging in the activities available. This happens to ensure that events/activities are organised and delivered for those most in need and as such is incidental.
