Newpoint Players mount at least four productions throughout the year. Our season usually starts mid-November with rehearsals for a festival show which will tour local venues, auditoria in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and, occasionally, Great Britain. These performances involve our adults and, sometimes, members of our youth group.
This tour usually lasts from February to May and may involve 8 - 10 performances. Numbers depend upon the particular show. Our members work on-stage and backstage and develop a wide variety of skills in the process. For six or seven weeks, during the Summer holidays, Newpoint Youth work 4 hours a day, five days a week on theatre craft culminating in a major production in the first week of September. It is a central tenet of the organisation that no youth will be asked to pay for this opportunity. We count at least fifty of our former participants who now earn a living in various aspects of performance and technical craft as a result of their participation in this group. In the Autumn, we usually stage a major production for the home town and surrounding areas with as many new recruits as possible. At the same time we work on one-act productions for one-act festivals. Throughout the year we participate in various community events and alternative performance spaces. Our Newpoint Fringe, composed mainly of members who have returned with skills from third level Drama related courses, produce quite challenging events.
