Public benefits

Purpose 1 The benefit that flows from this purpose is widespread public acknowledgement of individual achievement. This is evidenced by the continuous annual erection of plaques over more than 30 years. No harm results from the purpose. Purpose 2 To expand public knowledge of oft-neglected aspects of our history and to increase, through visible

and permanent plaques, public awareness of cultural and historic strengths. The benefits that flow from this purpose are increased public understanding of the contribution made by individuals associated with the locality, pride in the local neighbourhood, a source of inspiration for young people, and the involvement of individuals and organisations in the work of the Circle. This is evidenced by local and regional news coverage, radio and TV interviews, requests for talks about what the Circle does, nominations for plaques, use by Blue Plaque Guides, website and Dictionary access metrics worldwide, links to and from reference sites e.g. Bodleian Library, involvement in local exhibitions. No harm results from the purpose. Purpose 3 To co-operate with other historical and architectural groups with a view to promoting interest in the study of our history. The benefits that flow from this purpose are better inter-group working, co-operation in plaque events and local participation. This is evidenced by the number of groups involved in plaque events and by Circle delivery of talks and exhibitions all over the province. No harm results from this purpose.
