Public benefits

We believe our purposes meet the public benefit requirement as follows: - (a)The furtherance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ within the pastoralist area of Northern Kenya educates the population to help them make informed and moral choices, for instance in relation to cultural practices which are harmful to individuals and in many cases illegal.

This is demonstrated by: -Communities approaching us to rescue babies born outside cultural norms who are at risk of death. - Child Officers, Social workers in hospitals and Principals of schools asking us to take abandoned babies, and young children with HIV, protect girls from certain cultural practices and rescue young boys before they become hardened street children -Principals of schools inviting us to support their Christian Religious Education by bringing bible material for use by their school children. Similarily pastors and other organisations working with children asking for the bible material (b) The relief of poverty in the ‘Third World’ beginning in Kenya benefits the public through: (1) the provision of Children’s homes for abandoned, orphaned and very poor children and the provision of feeding programmes to reach others in need reducing homelessness and hunger. (2) Provision of nursery and primary schools, sponsoring children through education including visually and hearing impaired and mentally challenged children, and provision of material and equipment to schools creating increased access to education for children (3) Rural communities have access to clean drinking water through well building (4) Rural communities have access to Humanitarian aid such as medical assistance and emergency food. These benefits are demonstrated by demand for places in our children’s homes which are registered as Charitable Children’s Institutions (CCIs) under Kenyan Legislation, demand for places in our nursery and primary schools, requests for clean water by communities, and requests for food support in what is part of ‘The Horn of Africa’ an area regularly declared in famine. We are a small organisation doing whatever is within our means to help....... We are not aware of any harm flowing from our purposes which are mainly practical although there can be resistance from those with a vested interested in keeping the community ignorant and illiterate. The work in Kenya is carried out by local staff employed by Kind Fund Society under the direction and control of the Vision Holders from Kindfund. Short term volunteers engage mainly with the children in our homes through teaching, play and social activities. All those engaging with Kindfund do so from a sense of call and especially those volunteering to go to Kenya have this motivation in a strong way as they fund all the costs associated with their visit to avoid costs for the charity

What your organisation does

Kindfund has set up and directs Kind Fund Society of Kenya registered under Kenyan legislation for the same purposes as Kindfund. Kindfund UK transfers all funds shown in its accounts to Kind Fund Society Kenya. In Kenya the funds are used for the running and development of Christian children's homes, feeding programmes for orphans and poor

children in need, nursery schools and a small remote primary school. Support is given to enable children attend specialist visually and hearing impaired, mentally challenged and secondary education. All Kind Fund's activities take place among the poorest tribes of Kenya, the Turkana, Samburu and Rendille in the remote semi-desert North. The homes currently have 125 children, 9 of whom have HIV and many others have been rescued as babies from illegal cultural practices.
