Public benefits

Purpose 1 – to promote art through establishing and maintaining an art gallery and an affordable studio space for fine artists and makers. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include providing artists with a space in which to exhibit work at all levels of development. This will in turn further their professional growth, progress and

encourage innovative risk taking. The gallery provides a very sensitive and privileged insight into how artists work, where, why and when they work. The public are able to engage with artists on a different level other than observations of completed work as artists’ studios are viewable at all times. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from visitors to the space and also through surveys with artists involved in individual projects. We intend to conduct surveys with organisations such as Belfast City Council and the Northern Irish Tourist Board, who have visited and engaged with the space and exhibiting artists. This engagement can take the form of live performance action, exhibition of works, artist talks/conversation and annual general meetings of other Arts organisations. The trustees are satisfied that no harm flows from the purposes of the organisation. The beneficiaries are the artists whose work is displayed in the gallery and members of the general public who can attend the gallery and exhibitions held and engage with artists. The trustees are satisfied that no private benefit flows from the purposes of the organisation. Purpose 2 – to advance the education of the public in arts in all its aspects by the provision of classes, arts facilities and equipment and support. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the better education of the general public in all aspects of art. The gallery and events and exhibitions will bring innovative, contemporary art, performance live action, art education and art experience directly to them on a regular basis. Exhibitions using school pupils, graduates and postgraduates artists work will increase their experience and knowledge in the arts field. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from the public – both verbal and written in the form of comment cards and visitor books. Invited artists and students will also be asked to complete an evaluation sheet on how they feel the exhibition was received and any improvements that could be made. The trustees are satisfied that no harm flows from the purposes of the organisation. The beneficiaries are the members of the general public, community groups, other arts organisations, invited artists, art graduates and students who are educated by attending the gallery and exhibitions held. The trustees are satisfied that no private benefit flows from the purposes of the organisation.

What your organisation does

POLLEN STUDIOS & GALLERY is an arts organisation based in Belfast city centre established in 2011, and has already become an integral part of the city’s vibrant art scene despite its young life. It provides its member artists with an invaluable space to work, as well as a gallery space which is available to members and non-members to host

exhibitions, workshops and other events. The studio maintains a strong agenda of community engagement, with particular emphasis on an educational program which focuses a lens on the city centre social landscape. In addition, the studio is dedicated to promoting Performance & Live Art, taking advantage of an international network of artists and collaborators.
