Public benefits

Public Benefit Statement The trustees believe that all our purposes satisfy the two-fold elements of the public benefit requirement being 1. Benefit which flows from our purposes, are capable of being demonstrated and are beneficial:; And 2. Public. Purpose (i) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the relief of the poor in

the area of Colin being an area of high unemployment and ranking as one of high multiple disadvantage by promoting social inclusion through developing their social interaction and communication skills thereby reducing any marginalisation, by addressing the chronic health, education and deprivation indicators for children and young people within the area of Colin. . Purpose (ii) The direct benefit which flows from this purpose include the creation of social economy businesses within the area of Colin and the direct employment of individuals from the area in the various Enterprises set up by the Charity thereby imbuing them with skills, training and experience that would not be available to them elsewhere. . Purpose (iii) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are the development, in the area of emotional literacy, increase in knowledge, improvement in speech and language skills and literacy skills, the creation of enterprises giving work within the area and training for new skills among those recruited to positions including vocational qualifications. Purpose (iv) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are the creation of an ideology of a shared society and a sense of community ownership of the housing stock in the area with the desire to ensure its effective and proper repair and maintenance leading to longevity of the sector. . Purpose (v) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are a sense of community ownership and pride in the area, the transformation of underused land, the creation of areas for people to come together to pursue hobbies and activities , partake in training and come together to share practice in various areas. . Purpose (vi) The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is the advancement of community heritage and enhanced community understanding of the history of the area, the creation and nurturing of a sense of ownership and pride within the community, preservation of landmarks for the enjoyment of future generations and the conservation of the surrounding environment in an ancient area of significant cultural and heritage importance in Belfast. Purpose (vii) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose is the improvement of community life through recreational activities which can be used by the community within the area. This directly improves the sense of community within the area impacting indirectly on crime and health statistics for the better. Purpose (viii) The direct benefits which flow from this are the advancement of citizenship, improved community life, enhanced community understanding of environmental issues of importance from the young to the old to the overall benefit of the community of Colin. Purpose (ix) The direct benefits which flow from this are the reduction in health inequalities in the Colin area, the targeting of certain age groups for Health Screening, the creation of Domestic Violence Forums , Drug and Alcohol Forums, Suicide Prevention Groups and key Health Targeted Groups Purpose (x) The direct benefit which flows is the creation of a Colin area which is a safer neighbourhood for all its residents.

What your organisation does

What the Organisation Does (i) Colin Early Parenting Programme aimed at assisting parents with new babies who would be deemed vulnerable to poor outcomes due to family issues. (ii) Provision of Speech and Language Therapy on an outreach basis for children in p1and 2 in the Colin area and for training for teachers and parents. (iii) Take Ten

Programme to educate children in emotional regulation techniques. (vi) Time 4 Me counselling service addressing the mental health needs of 4-11 year olds in all Primary Schools in Colin. (iv) Colin Health for all Programme including Pilot Health Checks, Early Intervention Community, Domestic Violence Forum, Drug and Alcohol Forum, Suicide Prevention Programme, Men’s Group, COPD support Group, Arthritis Support Group and Colin 60+ Forum. (v) Community Safety Programmes. (vi) Environmental and Recreational Programmes including The Colin Gateway Project, The Colin Town Centre, The Allotments Project, Colin Green Spaces, mapping, monitoring and addressing hotspots, Evaluating Major Planning Applications, Submission of Projects for Awards Programmes. (vii) Colin Youth Strategy (viii) Volunteer development including training. (ix) Colin Events – providing a community led calendar of events that uses arts and cultural activities as a mechanism to deliver cross cutting initiatives which include, mental health and well-being, community cohesion, and looking after the environment. (x) Good Morning Colin – A telephone support project delivered to the older and vulnerable residents across the Colin, Dunmurry and Greater/rural Lisburn area. Providing events, activities and programmes to improve health and wellbeing in the community setting. Includes the Colin Carers support group, facilitated by Good Morning Colin staff meet weekly with 16 members in a relaxed environment for peer support and the opportunity to take time out for self-care.

Charitable purposes

The promotion for the public benefit of urban regeneration in the Colin area of Belfast (Twinbrook, Poleglass, Lagmore and Kilwee/Dunmurry) and its environs (the "area of benefit"), being an area of social and economic deprivation and for those living in the area of benefit, by all or any of the following means: (i) the relief of poverty in such ways as may be thought fit. (ii) The relief of unemployment in such ways as may be thought fit, including assistance to find employment; (iii) the advancement of education, training or retraining, particularly among unemployed people, and providing unemployed people with work experience; (iv) the improvement of housing in the public sector or in charitable ownership provided that such power shall not extend to relieving any bodies of a statutory duty to provide or improve housing; (v) the maintenance, improvement or provision of public amenities; (vi) the preservation of buildings or sites of historic or architectural importance; (vii) the provision of recreational facilities for the public at large or those who by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, poverty or social and economic circumstances, have need of such facilities; (viii) the protection or conservation of the environment; (ix) the provision of public health facilities and childcare; (x) the promotion of public safety and prevention of crime.
