Public benefits

The charity’s purposes will promote social inclusion and support for adults with mental health issues in the greater Lisburn area and ensure the maintenance and promotion of healthy living through community information sessions and workshops, recreational activities, positive mental health education, advice and support. The direct benefits of the

purposes will be increased interaction and participation levels within the community, improved general health and uptake of educational opportunities, improved mental health and reduced levels of anxiety, stress, depression and social isolation. The charity’s purposes will promote social inclusion and support for adults with mild learning disabilities in the greater Lisburn area. The service will offer opportunities to increase social interaction, develop confidence and empower individuals towards greater independence through educational and employment opportunities. The direct benefits of purposes will be increased personal development and wellbeing of people with learning disabilities and their enhanced ability to develop their full potential. The only private benefit resulting from the service is incidental and relates to the necessary payment of facilitators delivering programmes of activities within the groups. Any potential for harm through the delivery of the service will be mitigated through the implementation of relevant policies such as fire safety and evacuation and adult safeguarding.

What your organisation does

1. The Downtown Centre will provide a weekly club which will provide assistance, support and learning opportunities to 12 individuals who have a mild learning disability and live within the greater Lisburn area. 2. The Downtown Centre will provide a weekly club which will provide assistance, support, and learning opportunities to 16 individuals who

have a mild mental heath illness and live within the greater Lisburn area. 3. The Downtown Centre will provide a twice weekly Drop in which will be available by any member of the general public, primarily from the greater Lisburn area. This will promote social inclusion, community development and provide individuals with the chance to learn key skills as well as arts, crafts, and gentle exercise. 4. The Downtown Centre will support a fortnightly group for Senior Citizens of the greater Lisburn area. This will promote social inclusion, community development and provide individuals with the chance to learn key skills as well as arts, crafts, gentle exercise, and the chance to meet with and gain information from relevant healthcare professionals. 5. The Downtown Centre will provide fortnightly support groups for parents of a child with learning disability. This will promote social inclusion with those of shared experiences.

Charitable purposes

a. The Organisation is established for the benefit of the inhabitants of Lisburn and its environs ( hereinafter described as “the area of benefit’) without distinction between persons of different religious belief, political opinion, racial group, age, marital status or sexual orientation; between men and women generally; between persons with a disability and persons without; and between persons with dependants and persons without, by associating statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education to protect and preserve public health and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
