Public benefits

The Trust’s purpose shall be by such means as are charitable to further and promote the gospel of Jesus Christ among men and women and young people both at home and abroad in accordance with the teaching of Holy Scripture and in particular (a) to provide for the preparation and training of students of Belfast Bible College (hereinafter called “the

College” for future christian service. (b) to assist students of the College in training or intending to train for christian service to gain preliminary Missionary experience as part of their college course. (c) to enhance the facilities for christian study and training provided by the College. (d) to sponsor the holding of lectures on such subjects as would assist College students and christian leaders in their training for future christian service. (e) to establish scholarships for students to undertake College courses who would otherwise by reason of financial constraint be unable to do so. (f) to assist former students of the College in their chosen field of christian service. The direct benefits which flow from the above purpose are a deeper understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ through the provision of (a) study aids such as computer software which allows research into the meaning of the original text in Hebrew, Greek and Latin, (b) financial support for students to visit sites of historic Christian interest, (c) financial support for recreational equipment for the students staying on the College campus e.g. sports equipment, (d) sponsoring lectures by eminent theologians from around the world at the College. Such lectures are widely advertised and the general public are encouraged to attend such events. These benefits are demonstrated in that the Trustees seek guidance from representatives of the beneficiaries (The Student Committee – which is elected each year from the students attending the college) and the management of the College (normally the Principal) as to what projects they would like the trust to support financially. The Trustees consider each alternative on its merits and on whether it meets the criteria of the trust. The Trustees have always supported projects which they feel are not likely to be funded by the College itself. Conversely they have not used the trust’s income to support projects which they feel should be provided by the college itself. As part of their review of the outcome of the previous year the Trustees receive an oral report from the Principal on the benefits received from the disbursements made the previous year. The purpose of our charity has no known harmful effects. The charity’s beneficiaries are students who attend Belfast Bible College. There is also an ancillary benefit to anyone who attends a lecture promoted by the trust. Such lectures are advertised by the Belfast Bible College on its website and in the press. The lectures are given by scholars of high renown and are open to anyone who is interested in attending. They are usually scheduled in the evening to make access to such scholarship as convenient as possible for both students and the general public. There is no private benefit flowing from this purpose as all the money which the trust derives from its investments is paid out for the benefit of the beneficiaries
