Expression of intent form

At present, all charities operating in Northern Ireland must register with the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland when the Commission when contacted by the Commission to do so.

However, to be contacted for registration, your organisation must complete an Expression of intent form, even if you already have an HMRC charitable tax reference number. Complete the Expression of intent form here: Expression of intent for charity registration. The contact details you provide will be used when the Commission calls your organisation forward.

The Commission calls forward organisations that have submitted an Expression of intent in groups (known as tranches).  A list of all charity registration applications currently being processed (updated to 24 October 2025) is available in the sidebar.

New Expressions of Intent (EOIs) are usually called forward for registration within eight weeks of being submitted. You may be contacted sooner, so be ready to apply once your form is submitted. If you believe your organisation has special circumstances and needs an earlier call‑forward - such as a funder requiring charity registration within a tight deadline - you can explain this in the form. The Commission may ask for evidence.
