Commission to upgrade online systems in August
The Commission will upgrade its online systems in August 2026, introducing a range of improvements for charities.
The upgrade will affect the My charity login, through which charities file their annual returns and update their details, as well as the online charity registration application.
The new system will also feature a more modern design and clearer guidance to help charities meet their legal requirements.
What you need to do
Once the new My charity login goes live, the main charity contact will need to set a new password when accessing services after the change. The Commission will send simple, step-by-step instructions from our @charitycommissionini email address at that time. There is no need to reset any passwords yet. For your security, always access our services via our official website. We will never ask for your password in emails or phone calls.
In the meantime, charities are encouraged to:
- check their public register entry.
- update any out-of-date contact or trustee details using the current My charity login.
The Commission will contact organisations directly where necessary and this will ensure the correct person receives important update instructions.
Annual reports and accounts
Charities can still submit annual reports and accounts during the upgrade, although there may be a short outage of 24-to-48-hours in August. Charities due to file around that time are encouraged to submit before the start of August where possible.
Registration applications
To support the move to the new system, the Commission has paused inviting organisations to apply for registration. We anticipate this will restart again in early September.
If you are already working on an application, you should submit it by 5pm on Friday 31 July 2026 - but only if it is complete. Do not rush your application, as incomplete submissions may be refused or need extra follow-up. The next steps, depends on whether you have started your application or not.
If you have been contacted to apply for registration and have started your application, the update below is for you.
- If you have been actively working on your online registration application since 12 May 2026 but cannot finish it by 31 July, save and print a copy of your draft and get ready to apply again using the new system. The Commission will contact you with instructions on how to access the upgraded registration application. We anticipate this will be in September.
- As highlighted in our registration guidance, if you have not worked on your application for the past 30 days (before 12 May 2026) the system will have deleted it. You will need to contact us to be added to a future “call forward” list.
If you have been contacted by the Commission to apply for registration but have not started your application, the update below is for you.
- If you were contacted in May 2026 to apply but have not started the application yet - you will be contacted with instructions on how to access the upgraded registration application. We anticipate this will be in September.
- If you were contacted before May 2026 to apply and have not been working on your online application, you will need to contact us to be added to a future invitation list.
Applications already submitted, or received before the deadline, will continue to be processed as normal.
The Commission thanks charities for their co-operation during the upgrade period.
