Call for volunteers

The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland has issued a call for individuals willing to volunteer their time to support charities facing operational and governance challenges.

The Commission has already established a list of individuals who can provide mentoring and/or practical support to charity boards on a short or long-term basis. It is now seeking to expand that pool by inviting expressions of interest from those with relevant skills, experience or a desire to contribute.

Rossa Keown, Head of Compliance and Enquiries at the Commission, said the list plays an important role in enabling the Commission to support charities when needed.

He explained: “The initiative is designed to connect capable individuals with charities that may require additional support, particularly in times of difficulty. This, in turn, helps to build resilience as well as public trust across the sector.

“While prior experience at board level would be beneficial, it is not considered essential, and we are keen to hear from individuals with a wide range of backgrounds who are willing to use their skills to make a difference. Charities operate across diverse areas and varied perspectives are invaluable.”

For further information or to express an interest, contact the Commission via website including in your message the words “charity support”: https://www.charitycommissionni.org.uk/about-us/contact-us/

Those who express interest will be invited to take part in an initial conversation with the Commission to explore their experience and how they might best assist organisations in need.

The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland is committed to equality. Expressions of interest are welcome from all eligible persons regardless of religious belief, gender, disability, race, political opinion, age, marital status, sexual orientation or whether or not they have dependants.
