Annual reporting blog: 31 October is closer than you think

By Fiona Muldoon

Monitoring and Compliance Manager

With the annual reporting deadline of 31 October 2026 fast approaching, I would like to thank the many charities that have already submitted their annual reports and accounts.

It is encouraging to see that, of the 2,020 charities due to file by the deadline, almost 1,100 have already completed their annual return. Thank you to those trustees and volunteers who have taken the time to meet this important responsibility. However, around 900 charities (45%) still need to submit their accounts, reports and annual return.

I know that trustees are often balancing their charity responsibilities alongside work, family and other commitments. That's why it's so important not to leave filing until the last minute.

This year, the deadline falls on a Saturday, which means the Commission will be unable to provide support on the deadline date itself.

Submitting early gives you time to deal with any unexpected issues and helps ensure your charity meets its legal reporting obligations on time.

Annual reporting is more than a regulatory requirement. It is an opportunity to demonstrate transparency, accountability and the impact your charity.

Please file now

If your charity has not yet submitted its annual return, accounts and reports, I would encourage you to make this a priority over the coming weeks. Log in to your My charity login online account via charitycommissionni.org.uk, review what information is required and complete your filing as soon as possible. Filing early reduces the risk of last-minute difficulties and gives you time to resolve any issues before the deadline.

Don't wait until 31 October. File now and help ensure your charity remains compliant, transparent and accountable to the public it serves.
