Public benefits
The direct benefit of the organisation is the relief of financial hardship for individuals and families affected by suicide. This includes reducing the immediate financial burden associated with funeral costs and other essential expenses at a time of distress. By providing financial assistance, the charity helps to alleviate stress and hardship,
enabling beneficiaries to manage urgent costs and maintain stability during a difficult period. The benefits will be demonstrated through records of financial assistance provided, including the number of beneficiaries supported, the types of costs covered (such as funeral expenses or essential household bills), and the value of grants awarded. The charity will maintain appropriate records of applications, decisions and payments, including payments made directly to service providers. Feedback from beneficiaries and referring organisations may also be used to demonstrate the impact of the support provided. The beneficiaries are individuals and families experiencing financial hardship as a result of suicide, primarily within Northern Ireland. This includes those who are unable to meet the costs associated with funeral arrangements or other immediate expenses following a bereavement. Any private benefit arising from the organisation’s activities is incidental and necessary to achieving its charitable purpose. For example, payments may be made directly to funeral directors or other service providers in order to meet essential costs on behalf of beneficiaries. These payments are a necessary part of delivering financial assistance and are not the primary purpose of the charity. No trustee or connected person will receive any undue benefit, and all funds will be applied solely in furtherance of the charity’s purpose.
What your organisation does
The organisation carries out its purpose by identifying individuals and families who are experiencing financial hardship as a result of suicide and providing financial assistance to meet immediate and essential needs. The charity will primarily support families with costs arising following a death by suicide, including funeral expenses and other
related costs. Where appropriate, payments will be made directly to funeral directors or other service providers to ensure that funds are used for their intended purpose and to minimise financial risk. The charity intends to establish referral pathways with local funeral directors and other community organisations, who may signpost families in need of financial assistance. Referrals may also be made directly by individuals or their representatives. Each request for assistance will be considered by the trustees, who will assess the level of need and ensure that any support provided is in line with the charity’s purpose. The charity will raise funds through donations, events and other lawful means, and all funds will be applied solely towards supporting beneficiaries and the administration of the charity. The trustees will ensure that all decisions are made in the best interests of beneficiaries, that funds are distributed fairly, and that appropriate records are maintained.
