Public benefits

The direct benefits are the personal development and education of young people through structured, supervised activities. Young people develop practical life skills, confidence, teamwork, leadership ability, resilience and a sense of responsibility. They gain outdoor skills, problem-solving ability and increased physical activity. The Group also

promotes active citizenship through community service and engagement with local initiatives. The benefits can be demonstrated through: Achievement of badges and awards recognising skill development and progression Participation in structured programmes aligned with national Scouting outcomes Observable development in teamwork, leadership and communication skills Feedback from parents/guardians and young people Participation in community service projects and local events Ongoing safeguarding and training standards for adult volunteers The programme is delivered in accordance with established educational methods and national Scouting standards. There is no inherent harm arising from the charity’s purposes. Activities are age-appropriate and are carried out under trained leadership with appropriate risk assessments, safeguarding policies and health and safety procedures in place. Any potential risks associated with outdoor or physical activities are carefully managed to minimise harm. The beneficiaries are children and young people aged approximately 6–18 who live in newcastle co down and surrounding areas. The Group is open to all young people within the community, subject to capacity and safeguarding requirements, and does not discriminate on the grounds of background, belief or ability. Any private benefit is incidental and necessary to achieving the charity’s purposes. Adult volunteers may gain personal satisfaction, skills and training from their involvement, but they do not receive profit from the organisation. Trustees may be reimbursed for legitimate out-of-pocket expenses only. Any payments for goods or services are made on reasonable commercial terms and solely to support the delivery of the charity’s objectives.

What your organisation does

The Scout Group delivers a structured youth development programme for young people aged approximately 6–18 in the local area, in accordance with the policies and rules of Scouting Ireland. The Group operates regular weekly meetings for its sections (for example Beavers, Cubs and Scouts), where young people take part in a balanced programme of

activities designed to support their personal development. Activities include: Team-building and leadership exercises Practical life skills (such as first aid, communication and problem-solving) Outdoor education including camping, hiking and expeditions Community service and citizenship projects Creative, cultural and physical activities Badge work and awards that recognise achievement and progress The Group is run by trained adult volunteers who are supported through safeguarding procedures and leadership training provided through the Scout movement. In addition to weekly meetings, the Group organises camps, day trips, community engagement events and participation in regional and national scouting activities. Through these activities, the organisation promotes the physical, intellectual, social and emotional development of young people and encourages them to become responsible, active members of their community.
