The direct benefits flowing from the organisation's purposes include continuing to research the historic demesne and the development of the Arboretum, in particular the Annesley Walled Garden, helping to preserve stories and photographs to help conservation and engagement with the public; support conservation of the tree collection and continued

restoration of the gardens through fundraising; support biodiversity awareness and recording through occasional species/survey recording to maintain a data base of fauna and flora; promoting an understanding of the international importance of the Arboretum as a heritage asset and its conservation value, through talks, workshops, and tours of the gardens, ezines, providing educational experiences for the public; encouraging community involvement and support for the gardens, fostering a sense of belonging and connection among the community and the enjoyment of greenspaces for mental health and wellbeing. These benefits will be evidenced through the development of our knowledge of the historic demesne and arboretum, feedback from members of the public, the number of tours, talks, workshops, ezines each year, biodiversity surveys and the maintenance of the fauna and flora list, the amount raised which can be used to support the purchase of specialist trees or shrubs, restoration projects or other activities that produce public benefit within the Arboretum. We will offer membership to the general public who are interested in supporting the Arboretum, we will engage the public and members with information, events, workshops and talks about the Arboretum, volunteers can help with plants sales to raise funds for particular projects within the Arboretum.

Charitable purposes

The Company is established for charitable purposes only. Its Objects are to promote the public benefit in relation to Castlewellan Arboretum and the Annesley Walled Garden with Castlewellan Forest Park by: 1. Environmental Protection and Improvement To promote the conservation, protection, restoration, maintenance and sustainable development of Castlewellan Arboretum and the Annesley Walled Garden, including their heritage buildings, landscapes, plant collections, biodiversity, habitats and wildlife. 2. Advancement of Education To advance education for the public benefit in relation to horticulture, arboriculture, environmental conservation, biodiversity, and the built and natural heritage of Castlewellan Arboretum and the Annesley Walled Garden, including through tours, training programmes, events, interpretation, research and collaboration with other gardens, arboreta and educational bodies. 3. Advancement of Environmental Sustainability To enhance the scientific, horticultural and conservation value of the plant collections and natural environment of Castlewellan Arboretum and the Annesley Walled Garden, and to promote understanding of environmental stewardship, biodiversity conservation and climate resilience. 4. Advancement of Citizenship and Community Development To advance citizenship and community development by providing opportunities for individuals and groups to participate in volunteering, learning, and community activities within Castlewellan Arboretum and the Annesley Walled Garden that promote social inclusion, civic engagement, health and wellbeing. 5. Advancement of Health and Wellbeing To promote the health and wellbeing of the public by encouraging access to, enjoyment of, and engagement with high-quality green spaces and natural environments within Castlewellan Arboretum and the Annesley Walled Garden. 6. Provision of Facilities and Resources To improve, or assist in the improvement of, Castlewellan Arboretum and the Annesley Walled Garden by providing or assisting in the provision of equipment, plants, infrastructure, facilities and other resources consistent with the charitable purposes of the Company.
