Whilst a public benefit statement has been provided the Commission has relied on other evidence to satisfy itself that the public benefit requirement has been met. The advancement of the health of elderly men thus saving lives By seeing the men become more active and more willing to join in the activities of the others. No. The progress is in

accordance with the guidance of Men's Sheds Ireland and supervised by the Council Staff. The elderly men themselves and indirectly their families who will appreciate their improvement. The benefit is private to the individual and fully intended.

What your organisation does

The organisation is a group of elderly men set up under the auspices of Men's Sheds Ireland to carry out activities designed to help their mental health. We are supervised by people known as coordinators from the local council. The activities to date have included clearing out and refurbishing an old house which was donated to us by one of our

members. We now have a kitchen for light meals, a meeting room with open fire for group dicussion, a room with treadmill, exercise bike and rowing machine to aid our physical health, a games room with dartboard, card table, draughts etc. and a private room for the use of medical personnell as well as toilet facilities.

Charitable purposes

4. The charity’s objects are specifically restricted to the following in Creggan and its surrounding areas in Co. Armagh, Northern Ireland in particular but not exclusively without distinction of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, ethnic identity, political or religious opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, community and voluntary organisations and the beneficiaries in a common effort to relieve poverty, financial hardship and isolation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said beneficiaries: a) The advancement of citizenship or community development - by providing a welcoming venue for men to talk and connect with others while participating in group and/or individual projects; and to reduce isolation and increase social networks of men in Creggan and the surrounding area. b) The prevention and relief of poverty - by providing training and skills development, capacity building and learning for men in the area, thereby improving employability as well as self-esteem and well-being. c) The advancement of health and the saving of lives - by providing healthy living guidance leading to improved physical and mental well-being for the men and the wider community.
