Public benefits

Pupils at Naíscoil & Gaelscoil Léim An Mhadaidh have access to additional educational resources, equipment, and opportunities that enhance their learning and development. Children experience enrichment through cultural, sporting, and social activities that would not otherwise be available. The Irish language and cultural heritage are supported

and promoted, strengthening pupils’ educational experience in an Irish-medium setting. Parents and carers are more engaged in school life, which research shows has a positive effect on children’s achievement and well-being. The wider school community benefits from inclusive events that build stronger connections between families, staff, and local residents. The benefits of our PTA’s work can be demonstrated through: 1. School records and financial accounts, showing how PTA funds are raised and spent on resources, equipment, and activities for pupils. 2. Feedback from staff, parents, and pupils, for example comments on how events, new equipment, or activities have improved learning or well-being. 3. Observation of increased opportunities for pupils, such as participation in cultural workshops, sports, trips, or Irish-language events funded by the PTA. 4. Attendance at community events, which reflects strong engagement and support from families and the wider community. 5. Visible improvements in school life, such as new books, technology, or facilities provided through PTA fundraising. The PTA’s purposes are entirely charitable and designed to benefit pupils and the school community. Any potential harm is minimal and can be managed through good governance and safeguarding measures. Possible issues could include: 1. Mismanagement of funds — mitigated by maintaining accurate accounts, transparent reporting, and approval by the committee. 2. Health and safety risks during events — mitigated by risk assessments, adult supervision, and following school policies. 3. Inadvertent exclusion of some members of the community — mitigated by promoting events inclusively and encouraging participation from all families. With these measures in place, the PTA’s activities are expected to deliver benefits safely and effectively. The primary beneficiaries of the PTA are the pupils/students attending Naíscoil & Gaelscoil Léim An Mhadaidh. Additional beneficiaries include children and young people in the school community, their families, and, more broadly, the local community, who benefit from inclusive events, cultural activities, and fundraising initiatives organized by the PTA. The PTA’s purposes are entirely for the public benefit, primarily supporting pupils, their families, and the school community. Any private benefit is incidental and necessary for carrying out the PTA’s activities. For example: 1. Committee members may receive reimbursement for reasonable expenses incurred while running events or managing funds. 2. Volunteers may benefit from participating in social or community activities, which helps them contribute effectively to the PTA’s charitable objectives. 3. No individual or trustee receives any financial gain beyond these incidental benefits, which are necessary to achieve the PTA’s charitable purposes.

What your organisation does

Our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) works to advance the education and well-being of pupils at Naíscoil & Gaelscoil Léim An Mhadaidh, an Irish-medium school in Northern Ireland. We do this by: 1. Raising funds to provide additional resources, equipment, and experiences which the school could not otherwise afford. 2. Supporting Irish-medium

education and cultural traditions, including activities that promote the Irish language, music, and heritage. 3. Organising inclusive events such as fairs, sponsored activities, and community gatherings that bring together pupils, parents, staff, and the wider community. 4. Encouraging volunteering and parental involvement, which strengthens home–school partnerships and improves outcomes for pupils. 5. Funding and supporting enrichment opportunities such as workshops, sports, cultural events, and other activities that enhance pupils’ development beyond the classroom. Through these activities, the PTA benefits not only the pupils of the school but also their families and the wider community.
