Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from charitable purposes are: (i)access to a safe and welcoming environment for all men in Killyleagh and surrounding areas, providing a space to engage with other men, learn, share and develop skills, increase confidence, combat isolation and depression and enhance quality of life. (ii) opportunities for men within

Killyleagh and surrounding area, to participate in a range of activities with others or individually, increasing skills and knowledge resulting in enhanced quality of life (iii) opportunities for men to socialise and connect with others in a safe and welcoming setting (iv) reduction in social isolation and increased social networks of men in the Killyleagh and surrounding areas by offering opportunities to engage in activities that: - bring people together to socialise and support each other, helping to reduce isolation and depression - facilitate involvement in creative activities - increase self-awareness, confidence and motivation and lead to an enhanced sense of purpose and fulfilment. (v) opportunities for skills development, capacity building and learning for men in the Killyleagh and surrounding area. Learning together and sharing learning with the wider community. Men in our group will be using new and existing skills to improve our environment, also creating a group that has a range of skills to assist the wider community (vi)advancement in health and well being of men in the Killyleagh and surrounding area, improvement of mental and physical health, fitness and well being and greater knowledge of the health support services that are available The benefits can be identified through feedback from the participants, internal and external evaluations of the work and impact questionnaires, the numbers of participants acquiring new skills and taking part in health related programmes, and research findings that confirm the benefits of participating in Men's Sheds activities No harm arises from any of these purposes. Men aged from 18 years onwards from Killyleagh and surrounding areas. There is no private benefit arising from any of the purposes. Private benefit to trustees may arise from our programme of activities as trustees will be eligible to avail of the group’s activities. Through volunteering as trustees, individuals may gain skills and experience which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries

What your organisation does

The charity carries out its purpose by providing facilities, amenities, and access to tools and equipment to men aged over 18 who live in and around the Killyleagh area to enable members to engage in a varied range of inter-generational activities,crafts, hobbies, sharing skills and learning together. Participants take part in training and

development and have an opportunity to socialise, enhance their skills and engage in enjoyable creative and recreational activities including trips and away days. Men involved in the shed have an opportunity to take part in awareness raising sessions on various relevant health issues with a number of community and voluntary sector partners

Charitable purposes

The charity is established to reduce social isolation among and improve the health of men in the Killyleagh and surrounding areas by the following means (together, the ‘Objects’): (1) to provide a safe and welcoming environment and venue for men of all walks of life to talk and connect with others while participating in individual or group projects, tasks, activities, sports, learning and socialising; (2) to provide opportunities for friendship and socialising in a safe and welcoming environment in the context of providing the space, opportunities, facilities and expertise for men to pursue hobbies, crafts and creativity; (3) to provide an opportunity for members to undertake projects, acceptable to the members as a whole, which are to the benefit of individuals and or groups in the local and broader community; (4) to provide an environment where men, both skilled and unskilled in any endeavour can, in the company of others, pursue hobbies, past-times and interests and learn new skills; (5) to work together in partnership with statutory, voluntary, and community organisations to influence and contribute to the development of services in order to improve and enhance the experiences, opportunities, well-being, and physical and mental health of men of all walks of life; (6) to use any grant from statutory, trust and foundations and private business organisations to an effective way, which encourages and strengthens the participation of members in the charity; and (7) to work in partnership with all other groups, individuals and organisations that support and advance the purposes.
