Public benefits
The purpose of this charity is to recruit, train and maintain a group of first responders to cover the post code areas (BT76,77,78 – Augher, Clogher, Eskra) agreed with the Northern Ireland Ambulance service. This purpose also involves, endeavouring to enhance and protect the life of those in need of emergency critical care until an ambulance
arrives. The direct benefits include being able to train and equip our volunteers who are all from our local communities, therefore improving their skill base and helping them make a vital contribution to the community. Another direct benefit includes being able to provide a lifesaving service, through our charity of local volunteers, to our local community. The benefits are demonstrated through the fact there is very little free training in lifesaving for volunteers who want to be involved in this type of voluntary charity work. The benefits are also demonstrated by the fact that we anticipate, as a charity being able to respond to medical emergencies in our community with the aim of preserving and protecting life through the training and equipment that has been provided. There is a possibility of causing injury whilst performing CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation), however it is well documented that the benefits greatly outweigh any small potential of harm and could be lifesaving. Our beneficiaries fall into two groups 1. The community in which we operate will be the main beneficiary as our volunteers are all local and will be on hand to offer lifesaving skills to everyone. 2. Our volunteers also benefit from free, comprehensive training and guidance provided by the Northern Ireland Ambulance service (NIAS). Private benefit is gained by our volunteers as they have / will receive training and equipment without personal cost that may be of value to them in other voluntary or paid workplace situations. This benefit is incidental and necessary as we are obliged to offer such training and equipment as part of our commitments to the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service first responder’s programme.
What your organisation does
Our volunteers live within the local community and respond to alerts from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) to specific 999 emergency calls for their area. They are alerted in addition to an ambulance that has already been sent. Their aim is to reach a potentially life-threatening emergency in the vital first few minutes before the
arrival of an ambulance crew. They are able to provide basic emergency life support and use a defibrillator if required.
