Road Victim Support Northern Ireland (RVSNI) is a charity dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by road traffic collisions. To align with the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s “Purposes and Public Benefit Toolkit,” RVSNI’s purpose can be defined as follows: “To provide emotional, practical, and advocacy support to
individuals and families affected by road traffic collisions in Northern Ireland, thereby alleviating distress and promoting recovery.” Public Benefit: RVSNI’s activities directly benefit the public by: • Emotional and Psychological Support: Offering counselling and emotional assistance to victims and their families, aiding in the recovery from trauma. • Practical Assistance: Guiding individuals through legal and insurance processes, ensuring they receive appropriate support and resources. • Advocacy: Raising awareness of road safety issues and representing the interests of victims, contributing to improved public safety measures. These activities align with the charitable purpose of “the relief of those in need,” as outlined in the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008. By fulfilling this purpose, RVSNI meets the public benefit requirement, ensuring that its activities are for the public benefit and align with the statutory guidance provided by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland. To demonstrate the charity’s impact, we will have S/Users testimonials and Feedback to showcase how RVSNI’s support has positively affected their recovery. Carry out Case Studies: Detailed examples of individuals’ experiences illustrate the real-world benefits of RVSNI's Services We will have Data and Statistics: Tracking the number of people supported, improvements in mental health provides measurable evidence of the charity’s effectiveness. We will have Partnerships and Collaborations: Working with healthcare providers, the police, and policymakers further extends RVSNI’s impact, creating systemic support for victims. We will create Public Awareness and Advocacy: Successful campaigns and policy changes can highlight the charity’s role in improving road safety and victim support, demonstrating broader societal benefits. Finally Support Networks and Peer Groups: The establishment of peer groups for accident victims showcases long-term recovery and emotional healing The increasing demand for services due to limited funding or staff. To ensure high-quality support, the charity should maintain sustainable funding, regularly assess service capacity, and avoid overburdening staff through proper resource management. By recognising and managing these potential risks, RVSNI can continue providing effective, positive support to victims while safeguarding their wellbeing and ensuring long-term impact. Beneficiaries include: Individuals who have been directly involved in road traffic accidents, including those who have sustained physical injuries, as well as those who may have suffered emotional or psychological harm as a result. Families of Victims: Families and loved ones of those injured or killed in road traffic collisions, who may require emotional support, guidance through legal processes, and assistance with coping with their loss or trauma. Survivors: Individuals who survive serious road traffic accidents and require support to recover physically, emotionally, and practically, including help with rehabilitation, legal claims, and accessing compensation. Wider Community: In a broader sense, RVSNI’s advocacy efforts, awareness campaigns, and road safety initiatives can benefit the wider community by contributing to a culture of safer driving and more robust support systems for those affected by road traffic accidents. The private benefits arising from RVSNI’s activities are incidental and necessary to its core purpose of supporting road traffic victims. Without the involvement of staff, volunteers, partner organisations, and donors, the charity would not be able to provide its services effectively. Therefore, any private benefits that occur are secondary to the public benefit and are in line with the charity’s goals.
