The Public benefit flowing from the advancement and improvement of agriculture is the education of the general public in the importance of this sector and the impact it has on everyone’s daily life. The benefit flowing from the promotion of knowledge and understanding of local rural life is to educate the inhabitants of Co. Tyrone and its environs
and provide them with an opportunity to view, sample and come to a better understanding of rural life and the countryside. The Public Benefit flowing from the promotions of agriculture and horticulture is advancement and encouragement of education for the general public in the importance of the sustainability of our agricultural environment and the preservation of the countryside. The benefits are demonstrated by the continued increase in the numbers both providing entries to various classes of competition and the numbers of general public who attend the annual show. What your organisation does
The Tyrone Farming Society is responsible for running the annual Omagh Show over two days at the beginning of July. The first day of the Show is exclusively for Equestrian competitions - showing, Working Hunter, Pony and Horse Showjumping. The showjumping events are affiliated to Show Jumping Ireland. The second day of the Show is the main day
with competitions for cattle, goats, poultry, agricultural horses and sheep in addition to more horse showjumping events. There is also a Home industries section of the Show that has a Schools section run in June with the winning exhibits displayed on Show day. The Home industries section receives entries from members of the public from across Omagh and the surrounding rural areas and covers baking, horticulture, crafts, floral art, photography. Other attractions on the main Show Day include a Dog Show, a Fashion Show. a Vintage section, live music from local artistes, numerous Trade stands and attractions for children. The Show is open to the public and attracts over 15,000 people from across Tyrone and neighbouring areas. To further the advancement of education the Tyrone Farming Society provides an annual bursary of £1,500 to a student at each of the three CAFRE campuses. Two of these are allocated by the college and one is chosen by the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Society from applications provided by students.
