Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from the purpose of New Town Together include reduction of social isolation and enhanced wellbeing of the membership. We work within a deprived area and many of our members are elderly, retired or suffer from disability. We provide a focus for social engagement, promote healthy exercise (walking, gardening, craft
activities etc) and encourage lifelong learning in a relaxed atmosphere The benefits of the organisation are demonstrated through regular discussion with, and feedback from, the membership. We also retain ongoing contact with local community organisations and individuals - who also provide feedback and suggestions for possible improvement or future projects. External oversight is provided through our membership of national organisations and through contact with statutory and voluntary agencies (Newry Mourne & Down District Council, Southern Health & Social Care Trust, Southern Age Well Network, Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action, County Down Rural Community Network etc) No harm has been identified. The main beneficiaries are the members of New Town Together. These are residents of Newtownhamilton and surrounding districts. The area is largely rural and underdeveloped. Many members are elderly, retired or suffer from disability. The wider community benefits from the improvement and maintenance of local amenities undertaken by the members, and from the provision of a number of social and educational events throughout the year. Local businesses occasionally provide modest sponsorship for our activities. The businesses gain a private benefit from the publicity involved, but this is incidental and necessary to the fulfilment of the purpose of the charity.
