Public benefits
The direct benefit which flows from Keady Celtic Football Club is the advancement of amateur football in town of Keady and its surrounding catchment area, and through access to sport and recreation in general. These benefits extend not only to physical health benefits but also the positive impact on members' mental health as a result of both
participation in physical activities as well as social events organised by the club. As well as playing sport, the club provides an opportunity for participants to make friends and forge relationships with people who support one another away from the game, building friendships with people from different cultural backgrounds and a social network that may potentially reduce the risk of mental health issues and/or feelings of loneliness. As the club was established in 1987, the fundamental purpose and benefit of providing access to football has been demonstrated for over 35 consecutive years. The growth in the number of registered players and suitably qualified coaches at the club in recent years also demonstrates a level of proficiency at the club, with more robust accounting procedures and an improved governance structure facilitating appropriate levels of transparency and confidence necessary to support the continued development of the club and, by association, grassroots football in the local area. Annual General Meetings and regular General Committee meetings will also ensure the club continues to deliver according to its constitution, safeguarding its charitable purpose for the benefit of the local community and achieving sustainable growth year after year. The only harm which may arise from the club’s purposes are that associated with taking part in contact sport and physical activity in general i.e. physical injury. These risks are mitigated through the provision of first aid equipment and ensuring coaches are suitably qualified (i.e. have complete first aid training as part of their coach education). Our beneficiaries are local people predominantly (but not exclusively) located in the Armagh District Electoral Area (DEA) with an interest in football. The proximity of Keady to the border with the Republic of Ireland does mean there are a number of players registered with us who are not residents in Northern Ireland. With 35 years of alumni, the clubs’ previous playing and non-playing members are additional (and notable) beneficiaries. Some private benefit may be incidental to the advancement of the club’s purpose. This will be limited to the education of club coaches who are/will be the individual beneficiaries of IFA standard coaching, who may use their coaching qualifications for private gain and/or employment in future. However, this is not an intended gain from the purpose of the club, but it is necessary in order to provide access to an adequate standard of coaching to our playing members.
What your organisation does
Currently the club operates two senior men’s football teams with approximately 50 registered players. Our first team participates in the IFA Affiliated Mid-Ulster Football League, whilst our Youth Team participates in the Lonsdale League which operates more locally in the Armagh City Area. The age of our playing roster ranges from 16 to 45+ from a
variety of backgrounds who train together twice a week at a locally rented council facility. Training is planned and managed by IFA-qualified coaches (volunteers) with competitive games taking place on Saturday afternoons with mid-week games taking place during summertime. The club’s coaches also provide support to other clubs, most notably the underage Keady Academy, offering access to coaching at no additional cost for approximately 130+ registered kids ranging from U-8 through to U-14. Guided by our General Committee and Volunteers, our club's vision focuses on the positive promotion of football with an ambition to provide opportunities where football can be played and enjoyed by all in a safe, supportive, respectful, and positive environment.
