Public benefits
The public benefits that flow from our charitable purposes are: Improved community life and citizenship by enabling affordable access to a community based sports facility; Acquisition of skills through coaching, mentoring and training; Increased health, well-being, and physical fitness of participants in the community; Increased positive
mental health levels and improved quality of life; Providing opportunities for physical activity/ recreation to under-represented groups in society and those that suffer from exclusion, including providing young people with attractive alternatives to risk taking behaviours; Enhanced personal development, leading to positive behavioural change, and improved self-esteem, confidence and social skills; reduction in anti-social behaviour and low level crime. These benefits can be evidenced by usage of the facilities by the local community, feedback from participants, parents and partner organisations; records of health & well-being progression via questionnaire’s; monitoring/ evaluations of the impact of the organisation’s programmes. In relation to harm, some of our activities involve MMA, which is a contact sport which carries with it the risk of injury. However, this risk is mitigated and reduced through supervision and coaching by trained and qualified volunteers and trainers, and by employing best practice safety measures, such as head-guards and relevant protective equipment, which safeguards participants. For all fitness and well-being activities, risk assessments, participant heath screening and health & safety policies are in place so that the harm is greatly outweighed by the benefits. The beneficiaries are the general public, people of all ages and backgrounds. [Is there any private benefit flowing from any of the purposes? Is it incidental and necessary?] No
What your organisation does
Heat MMA offers facilities, coaching and training for children and adults in MMA and provides programmes aimed at improving general fitness and wellbeing. This includes fitness and skills training, group training sessions and personal development training. We also deliver education and physical activity programmes for young people and adults to
help improve life outcomes, including specific programmes for people with physical and mental health issues. Other life skills and personal development programmes are provided to young people who are unemployed, have left school with few qualifications or are at risk of engaging in anti social behaviour or getting involved with the justice system.
