Public benefits

The direct benefit of the programme is the improvement of young people's attitudes towards fitness as well as the improvement in their own fitness. Through participation in Life Guards, either through the after school gym or through their school assemblies/classes, children and young people are educated about how they can look after their bodies

and minds. Children and young people learn how to manage their emotions, keep themselves healthy, and have a positive relationship with food and fitness. When children join the gym we ask them to self-assess their own fitness, and undertake a number of tests ourselves to show how they improve over time. These include the fitness test, the ability to recognise the difference between food groups, and a self assessment on how they manage stress and anxiety. At various points through the year we revisit the assessment to see if there has been any improvement. We also ask for testimonials from the young people and their parents, to demonstrate how their attitude towards fitness has improved over time through using the services offered by Life Guards. No. The charity beneficiaries are the young people who will benefit from the Life Guards programme. These are children ranging from 5 to 18, because we go into both primary and secondary schools for our assemblies and fitness classes. No private benefit.

What your organisation does

Life Guards currently runs a gym 3 times a week for children and young people, with 1 qualified Personal Trainer and 2 trainee Personal Trainers. Life Guards also goes into schools and leads both school assemblies (in primary and secondary schools) and runs a 4 week programme in schools, educating children about how they can stay healthy. In the 4

week session we run fitness classes, talk about healthy eating and the food wheel, discuss healthy ways to manage stress and anxiety, and talk about developing healthy habits. In the gym classes we do circuits with the young people.
