Public benefits
The expression of the precepts of the Christian religion through engagement with the general public, and in particular with the disadvantaged and marginalised, the sick, the elderly and the young is a public benefit. A direct benefit which flows from our objectives includes increasing the ability and activity of people to become involved in the
community. These benefits are demonstrated through the involvement of volunteers in various Church activities. Another direct benefit is improved knowledge of the tenets of the Christian faith and the opportunities created for people to put these tenets into action in the community. We are better able to identify and meet people’s practical and spiritual needs. As a community, we are able to use our collective resources to meet the practical needs of those in our community by delivering food and other practical support. This can be measured and evidenced through increased social integration and pastoral care delivered at the point of need. The public valuation of the benefits can be evidenced through attendance at public worship and willingness to be involved in other church activities, while actively engaging in activities which directly support the local neighbourhoods where our communities gather. The direct benefit of participation in Church life includes the enjoyment of public worship and the giving and receiving of pastoral ministry, improved understanding of the values relating to civic engagement, community cohesion and providing a bridge between diverse groups as well as improved educational outcomes through the Church’s ministry of teaching. The activities of our community do not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries are the general public - families and individuals living in north coast area of Northern Ireland, including Ballymoney, Coleraine and Ballycastle. A private benefit may arise to trustees and/or their families availing of Church activities. Access to these activities is equally open to all beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.
What your organisation does
Collective is a church community meeting in various towns and villages across the north coast of Northern Ireland. We primarily meet in homes or local community spaces, with the purpose of promoting the ways of our Christian faith, while working for the good of our local neighbourhoods by providing practical services to the wider public, engaging
with society as a whole to address common issues and offering support for those needing help. We promote the Christian faith through regular Sunday gatherings and a series of other meetings which are free and open to all. In addition to these gatherings, community members gather in smaller groups to be discipled through bible study, worship, supporting one another and prayer. Our church is active in local neighbourhoods, with community members opening their homes to host parents groups, clothes swaps, book groups, gathering food to be distributed to those who need it and other community activities. Our community members are also committed to volunteering with other local groups to build neighbourhood cohesion and meet needs locally. The Collective community works together to provide food for those in need, including delivering food to refugee and asylum seeker families. We work to end social isolation, especially in rural areas, by connecting small groups of our community to those isolated to provide friendship, community and to meet needs.
