Direct Benefits Historical Information on folklore, archaeology and antiquities of our area researched and is accessible to our local community, local schools and surrounding neighbourhoods. Great community spirit within a dedicated group of local people coming together to research and collect and share a wealth of history, folklore, archaeology
and antiquities of the area. The publication of a wealth of historical journals/volumes, books, newsletters, videos footage of historical event, photos, available for viewing as all are in the process of being uploaded to our recently suitably equipped computer. Computer is situated in “The Patrician Hall” The inclusion of older people to participate and tell their stories, and the development of inter-generational activities in the appreciation of our Art and Heritage. The completion of our Exhibition Cabinet installed in “The Patrician Hall” where it will be a repository for the preservation of items of historical significance along side the digitalised history. Townland Exhibition in two local areas which portrayed a host of historical photos, documents, newspaper clippings, videos. Photographic Exhibition on the History of of “The Patrician Hall”, researched and compiled on the first beginnings. This historical building was built by the community and opened in 1962. A collection of Historical Volumes / books/newsletter, videos available for viewing at and pass and upcoming events on the history of Termonmaguirc A Townland Quilt and Multi-media wall hanging created by local groups Over the years a number of Talks and reading of historical have taken place with a great attendance of all age groups. Genealogy Class now on going with all generations involved and coached by the more skilled members. Great community spirit. What your organisation does
(1) Society will continue with research & analysis of local historical archives, including online research (old maps, photographs, books, magazines/old newspapers, microfilm, land valuation data, census returns, church/ school records, sporting association records, local memoirs, old film/ newsreel, audio/visual interviews from past,
questionnaires/ surveys, old business records/accounts. (2) Hold talks and lectures and Host historical tours. • Assist local Schools in their planning and execution of local history projects • Stage local history exhibitions • Development of a comprehensive website • Digitalisation of our printed and audio/visual data • Promotion of our activities and aims through our Facebook page. • Have established our own local base, with a secure cabinet to display documents and artefacts of historical interest. • Publication of historical articles, magazines and books • Coordinate activities with neighbouring local history associations (3) The publication of historical journals and the reading of occasional papers, on behalf of the Society. • Publication of articles in local newspapers, books and annual productions. • Publication of local history magazine, An Tearmann (10 volumes so far) • Production of a hardback history of Carrickmore, Glimpses of Carrickmore. • Cooperation with one of our local sporting clubs, St. Colmcille’s GFC, in production of their hardback club history, The Carrickmore Tradition. (4) The establishment of a repository for the preservation of items of local historical significance. • The establishment of a base in “The Patrician”, Main St., Carrickmore. • Completion of grant-aided, secure storage facility for documents and artefacts of historical interest.
