Public benefits
Improved relationships between home and school. The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community. Advancing the education of pupils in the school. The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in
the school and links built with the local community. Benefit one is demonstrated through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support. Benefit two is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding. No harm arises from either purpose. The benefit is for children at St. John's Primary School, Coleraine. Charity trustees (our PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend, hence gaining benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries.
What your organisation does
The PTA holds meetings each term where all parents and guardians as well as teachers are invited. We run a bi monthly parent drop in programme inviting all those connected with the school to drop in, have a warm drink and chat. Parents and carers can avail of regular support programmes which assist with various topics, including supporting their
child educationally and emotionally, adapting to new technology or access to programmes which support wellbeing. We provide support sessions for children and young people at the school, this could be through play activities, additional educational support, access to outdoor learning or physical activity. All sessions are delivered by qualified volunteers of facilitators. We hold fundraising events like the Christmas Craft Fair where parents, guardians, friends and teachers at the school get involved. The PTA have purchased iPads, laptops, projectors, equipment and furniture to support the school and further advance the education of the pupils.
