Public benefits

The benefit of B.R.I.D.L.E is to enhance the health and well-being of people with a range of disabilities through the delivery of effective and life-enhancing equine experiences and therapy; (in terms of greater mobility, balance, core strength, self-confidence) the opportunity to learn new skills and achieve personal ambitions; and the chance to

enjoy taking part in a social activity that promotes general well being and mental health improvement. The benefits are demonstrated by the outcomes achieved for the group members - which is backed by research based evidence that shows the positive physical and psychological impact of the activity for the participants. In addition, the charity delivers a number of secondary benefits - particularly the improved communication and learning ability of school-age beneficiaries. We do not exclude any person from our activity, if there is appropriate equipment and support available; allowing families to enjoy the group together. Most of our group members would not be able to access equine therapy / horse riding if this charity did not exist to provide them with the equipment and support. Equestrian activity carries inherent risk to both the group member and the volunteers involved. Any potential risk and harm is offset by the charity operating within the guidelines and operating procedures of a commercial horse riding school and livery yard. All activities are guided and supervised by an appropriate person and the highest standards of safety and welfare are maintained. The charities beneficiaries are the group members who have a wide range of disabilities, their parents and other able-bodied family members who wish to join, and young adults/adults who volunteer for us. No private individuals benefit from the existence of the group, other than the equestrian yard in which we operate and this is incidental and necessary for the group to have horses to meet their purpose.

What your organisation does

Our organisation works with people with a range of disabilities. We provide tuition, training and support for people with disabilities to ride and experience equine therapy. All lessons are led by volunteers, some with many years experience in equine assisted therapy and horse riding. Training is provided for all volunteers and we operate a

volunteer programme for young adults wishing to fulfil Duke of Edinburgh Award or of similar standing.
