Public benefits
A revival of the rich heritage in the area and challenging the current negative narrative. This will help instil pride for the area in the local community and lessen the sense of alienation many feel. It will provide opportunities for the local community to take ownership of the heritage that they are so richly connected to. People will be able to
express themselves using the Arts and help alleviate negative feelings thereby improving their mental health and well-being. The South Armagh area will also be re-branded, thereby encouraging a revival and preservation of its rich heritage and folklore. No harm arises from any of the purposes The general public and the local community and the rural hinterlands As the narrative around the area alters there may be incidental private benefit through increased tourism and visitors especially those with an interest in history. The change in narrative is necessary to challenge the reputation that South Armagh has suffered over the Conflict years.
What your organisation does
Through archival research and recording narratives/stories we will preserve for future generations, folklore and tales from the area and to enhance activities to build on our love for music, dance, poetry, arts and natural heritage. We provide a platform through partnership with groups involved in the arts to bring it to the general
public. Creative writing courses Local storytellers and developing the craft by holding summer school exploring that skill. Free Irish language classes to revive and preserve the language in the area. We will present a range of interpretative and exhibition materials that capture and preserve our local heritage and cultures in the changing face of society and increasingly digital age.
