Public benefits

Social interaction for older members and visitors, regardless of their skill level in chess, the sense of comradry and team building. a sense of discipline for the young and encouraging a new level of concentration and mental engagement that is lacking in the video games normally played, the life lesson of cause and effect, and improved focus. as

we have the only dedicated building for chess in Northern Ireland we hope that this will develop into a real community and engage the community around us, IT MUST BE NOTED THAT THE CLUB IS ON AND INTERFACE IN LISBURN AND WE HAVE MASSIVE CROSS COMMUNITY SUPPORT We have children and adults who have taken part in tournament representing Lisburn, that they would never have dreamt of doing a year a go, the continuous improvement of the play in the club generally. A real sense of community at all our club meetings NONE AT ALL THE COMMUNITY GENERALLY AND MEMBERS AND VISITORS IN PARTICULAR (VISITORS IS THE TERM USED BY MANAGEMENT, FOR VISITORS GENERALLY AND THOSE USING THE PAY AS YOU GO OPTION, IT IS ONLY A TERM SO WE KNOW WHAT FUNDS ARE COMING IN ON A REGULAR BASIS FROM FULL MEMBERS) NONE. TEACHING / COACHING IS VOLUNTARY AND ALL MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGES TO TAKE ON A TEACHING ROLL OVER THE BOARD WHEN PLAYING A BEGINNER FOR INSTANCE, OR SHARE GENERAL EXPERIENCES

What your organisation does

Beginners night, young and people new to chess, with a demonstration and active play. currently we have 20-30 people including some with autism, and learning difficulties. We encourage other players - older players, to use the facilities as long as they are open so we will have older players quietly using the rooms as a social gathering, even

during the teaching practice. On Thursday nights we hold a tournament for more skilled players and those who want to have a go; THERE IS NO LIMIT ON THE SKILL LEVEL TO ATTEND. Saturday is a club day and in general play instruction for those who can not attend on Tuesday night, with occasional tournaments for practice with the younger players teaching tournament discipline etc. we collect memberships to fund the RENT, UTILITIES, AND SUNDRIES (we recently received not for profit status from Land and Property Services regarding rates). We also have a pay as you go format for the less well-off so a full membership is not necessary, we have one member who has sever learning difficulties and uses this method as she can spend long periods in hospital, with other health issues. we allow community groups to use the facilities for meetings etc., for a small donation towards the cost of the rent.
