Public benefits
Continuing education in the art of orchestral/instrumental music for all: improvement of skills, knowledge and appreciation for the orchestra members through participation and engagement within the group and ongoing opportunities to engage with other local groups and the wider public, thereby also enhancing the education and appreciation of
orchestral and instrumental music for other groups and the wider public. We provide a venue for weekly rehearsals, utilising the skills and knowledge of experienced musicians and tutors within the orchestra. We hold orchestral workshops, concerts and recitals in various local venues. We collaborate with the Causeway Coast and Glens and other groups. We obtain feedback (informally) from members, parents of members/music tutors and from other groups/the council, local care homes and the general public. No harm can arise from our purposes. General public, children (circa 9 years -13years), youth (14-25 year olds), older people. We may, funds allowing, employ professional musicians for very occasional workshops for the orchestra members and/or employ a more experienced conductor, again on occasion. Such private benefits would be incidental and certainly necessary to improve the education in and appreciation of orchestral/instrumental music for the members of the orchestra. In turn, this would improve standards for recitals and concerts.
What your organisation does
We provide a venue for musicians from all walks of life (children to older people) to come together to rehearse, improve skills in instrumental/orchestral playing, to socialise and to benefit from a sense of community involvement and belonging. We encourage school children and students from the local university/colleges to join and further their
skills. Foreign students and university employees are always welcomed. We give concerts and recitals for the general public in various venues including Flowerfield Arts Centre (Portstewart), Ballymoney Town Hall, care homes (outside in recent times) and a local library, etc. We participate annually in two local music festivals. We collaborate with other groups to perform at community festivals, etc. We coordinate with Causeway Coast & Glens Council Museum Branch: for example, we held a joint Sam Henry Concert (in conjunction with a history/heritage project) and we invited local primary and secondary school children to play with our orchestra. We are also collaborating to produce a history of the orchestra, to be displayed in various local museums, to be accessed by the public.
