Public benefits
The primary purpose of the Ballymena Floral Art Group is to promote education and good practice in horticulture in Ballymena and the surrounding area. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include: • enhancement of the individual’s horticultural knowledge and capabilities in flower arranging • encouragement to raise their standard of
horticulture and to be competitive in floral art competitions • raising awareness of the environmental impact of their flower arranging activities and to encourage them to garden in sympathy with nature • promotion of a healthy physical and mental lifestyle. These benefits can be demonstrated by feedback from members following lectures, demonstrations, garden visits and flower shows. Feedback from the general public following flower shows and other public events at which the Club is represented is positive. In handling plants and garden chemicals there is a slight risk of harm but the more harmful chemicals are not now available to the general public, therefore the benefits far outweigh the harm. The beneficiaries are members of the Club and their friends together with members of the general public who attend, read or hear about the Club’s public events such as flower shows and public lectures. There is no private benefit to trustees flowing from this purpose.
