Public benefits

The charity trustees believe that each of the three purposes satisfy both elements of the public benefit requirement. The direct benefits which flow from purpose 1 include the public performance of musical works for the benefit of both the members of the Ensemble and the General Public by participating in rehearsals and performing concerts in

public. The direct benefits which flow from purpose 2 include : Increased musical skills and abilities of the members of the ensemble associated with both public performances and practice/rehearsals. Improved team skills of the members of the ensemble as a result of performing as a group Enabling those who have previously been active in musical environs (but who are not currently active) to re-kindle their involvement with musical performance. The direct benefits which flow from purpose 3 include : The presentation of public concerts for the enjoyment of inhabitants of the local area and visitors to the area. Enabling those who have previously performed in an educational environment that they are about to leave or have recently left, and individuals who have performed at some point in their past, to re-invigorate their involvement with musical performance. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from self-critiques after the end of each piece of music during rehearsals and private practice, together with feedback gathered from the audiences during and after the public performances. There is no harm identified from any of the purposes. The beneficiaries of the purposes are : The members of the Ensemble whose ability to play their instruments in private and public performances will be improved. Individuals who are about to lose their involvement with musical performances eg school leavers, and those who have previously been involved but are not currently active, will be able to continue or re-start their musical journey. Members of the public who will hear and appreciate the performances. Active members of the Ensemble will benefit from improvements in their personal musical abilities and team skills, and those who were previously active in musical environs (but not currently) will benefit from the opportunity to join the Ensemble. Therefore the Private Benefit is incidental and necessary for the achievement of the charity's purposes.

What your organisation does

Members of the Ensemble attend regular rehearsals on a weekly basis to prepare pieces of music for performance to an acceptable standard. Members are expected to practice the pieces in their own time outside the rehearsals in order to ensure that they are able to play the pieces. The Ensemble will perform concerts in the Summer months and at

Christmas which are open to all members of the public including visitors to the area. In addition, opportunities are available for those who wish to become involved in arranging pieces of music for performance by the Ensemble in the public concerts.
