Family members of direct beneficiaries who can be reassured that their loved one is being cared for, supported and well looked after, their needs met, and opportunities offered to them in both living and working situations which may not otherwise be available to them, where the focus is on individual ability and not disability. Supporting members of the community and the wider public, who derive benefit through altruism, a sense of purpose, promotion of citizenship and human rights through, education, training, experience, work and day-to-day interactions together with persons who are disabled or otherwise in need. Is there any private benefit flowing from any of the purposes? Is it incidental and necessary? The purposes may create private benefit to the organisation, trustees, co-workers and other community members (volunteer and employed) through the provision of facilities, housing, salaries and training and skill development in areas such as health and social care, business management, governance, finance and other skills, some of which are transferrable to other settings, but are incidental and necessary to ensure that the organisation’s charitable purposes may be carried out and are outweighed by the benefit to beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

Camphill Community Holywood operates a residential care home registered with RQIA and under The Residential Care Homes Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005 and a workshop offering equality of opportunity such as work experience for our residents. We promote the practice of high-quality care, support and work opportunities for individuals with

learning disabilities. We provide a community ethos based on the Camphill principles which seeks to ensure that each individual’s intrinsic worth is valued and respected. Through the creation of a person-centred community, each individual is valued for their unique personality, provided with opportunities to grow and develop their skills both at home and in our workplaces. Through Social Therapy, a holistic approach to care and support is maintained in accordance with our ethos, meeting the needs of the individual with learning disabilities. All residents are fully involved in the life and work of the community, are offered opportunities to have active roles in both the home and workplace that promotes choice, empowerment and involvement. Our Camphill community promotes a reciprocal relationship of independence and interdependence, where each person contributes and can enjoy the support and benefits that community life brings, in a shared, supportive endeavour that naturally promotes equality. Camphill Holywood offers a Community in which opportunities for living, work, family-life, culture and recreation are integral. Our unique, urban Community offers integrated workplaces which provide spaces in which people can learn new skills, develop existing skills together. The workshops also provide a space in which awareness of global and environmental issues such as the benefits of healthy lifestyles, responsible consumerism, wholefood, vegetarian and alternative diets can be maintained and promoted. The search for a sustainable approach towards all aspects of life is deeply ingrained in our values
