Public benefits
The direct benefit that flows from the trust’s purpose is that the beneficiaries receive additional income from the trust to assist them with their needs during their lifetime. Once all former residents have died, the trust funds shall be given to Queen’s University of Belfast Foundation to be applied for research, carried out by the Department of
Ophthalmology and Vision Science, or such other body within the University which may from time to time assume its research functions, into the prevention, alleviation, treatment and cure of blindness, diseases and disorders of the eye and impairment of sight. Each beneficiary receives a sum of money per quarter, on their birthdays and at Christmas. There is no harm arising from any of the purposes. The charity's beneficiaries are the former residents of a home which was run by the Trust for the Visually Impaired. There are three remaining former residents in the trust. There are no private benefits flowing from any of the purposes.
