Public benefits
The main aim & direct benefits from money derived from the PTA are improvements in educational attainment for the children at St Brigid's Primary School. The children and teachers benefit from new outside education and play facilities. Personal Development - students go through a lot of personal development in school. Things such as critical
thinking skills, time management, perseverance, communication, and presentation skills are all great assets not only for future work but for personal life as well. Reduces Crime - education teaches our children the difference between right and wrong, and also exposes children and young adults to experiences of others. Understanding right and wrong and having empathy reduce tendency to commit crimes. Education of a society decreases overall arrests- just one year increase of average education levels of a state decrease state-wide arrests by 11%. Community Cohesion - a society that is well educated feels a higher sense of unity and trust within the community. Educated societies lift up the weak and bring a feeling of togetherness among all parts. Education is a powerful agent of change, and improves health and livelihoods, contributes to social stability and drives long-term economic growth. Children, young people and the whole community also gain skills, confidence and a sense of achievement and increased social interaction amongst the beneficiaries by attending classes/meetings and have an opportunity of additional support networking with people who have similar experiences. The direct benefits flowing from the provision of educational/recreational facilities includes an enhanced health and wellbeing amongst staff, children and community. The direct benefits flowing from the provision of educational/recreational facilities includes an enhanced health and wellbeing amongst staff, children and community. All of the above benefits can be demonstrated through feedback from parents or children and regular independent evaluation of our school and services. There are no identified harms flowing from the purposes. The charities beneficiaries are the school staff from having better facilities and equipment to do their work and teach the children. The children's education, mental, social and physical well being all improve with the additional services available, especially as a lot of the focus has been on outside play, facilities and education and the environment - this is teaching the children invaluable skills and knowledge. Parents are also benefiting as their children are receiving a better education and actually going home and talking to the parents about conservation, recycling and the world around us - encouraging and educating for better practices at home. The additional physical education facilities are improved and this helps the overall health of the children and they go home and encourage a healthier lifestyle. The community benefits from a happier, healthier and more educated local community. Also improved community life and development. There are no private benefits to any unintended beneficiaries.
What your organisation does
The PTA apply for any resources available to gain grant money to advance education both inside and outside St Brigid’s. With COVID being introduced as the daily norm - outside learning facilities are now much more important for our school. The School PTA has had a variety of fundraising events and apply for windmill & community grants. We have
renovated and installed an outside play area for the children. We have so far ordered 1 picnic table also. Although we are a small school – with Covid we need to keep classes in their bubbles, and items like additional classroom space outside will help greatly. Due to the classroom bubbles not all children can use the school canteen so items like picnic benches and outside area are helping the extension of school facilities. The outside play area has Improved the overall aesthetics of our school. As well as the play facilities we have also purchased Bug City and the Eco Waterfall this will help children develop skills and concepts, including observation, experimentation, and free exploration of the children’s surroundings. It also provides opportunities for the children to learn about the world around them - observing water, discussing the importance of not wasting water, and water in the environment such as raindrops. We have no play area in Altamuskin or the surrounding townlands our children are from. We have social housing in the area so some of our children do not have play areas at home. The facilities at the school are advancing education, physical education, social welfare and mental health of our children. These would not be available only for our PTA organisation. There are many more things we would like to add to the school, but we are currently limited in what funding we can apply for due to not having charity status as yet. Example attached as to 1st phase of what our PTA achieved in line with purposes.
